An overlooked set of resources to collect in Starfield are Membranes, important crafting ingredients for medical items that are best farmed on planets teeming with wildlife. Used to make powerful healing supplies and further project research, Membranes are relatively easy to obtain. The only difficulty surrounding this material comes from knowing exactly where to explore on planets where the resource can be harvested.
Unlike weapon mod crafting resources such as Europium in Starfield, Membranes are dropped as loot from enemy creatures. This makes it impossible to use an Oupost's Resource Extractor to ively gain Membranes as you travel among the stars. Instead, you have to actively look for this material by traveling to a specific landing zone on various worlds that you unlock as your character's level increases.
How to Best Farm Membranes in Starfield
The best way to farm Membranes in Starfield is to travel to planets that have Pack Coralbugs on their surface since these creatures drop the resource when killed. Coralbugs are smaller, insect-like enemies that appear on worlds with healthy biomes that multiple forms of life. Forests, mountains, marshes, and other environments are great places to look for these animals as you discover new moons or planets.
Groups of Coralbugs are found often on Jemison, one of the first planets you have access to at early levels that features the city of New Atlantis. Packs of these creatures can be found close to many Landing Areas on this planet, giving you a chance to farm a large amount of Membranes all at once. These enemies are relatively easy to defeat, but they can pose a threat when attacking together in Starfield.
Membranes are also sold for 9 Credits each at Jemison Mercantile in New Atlantis and on Mars within the Cydonia area with a vendor named Denis Averin.
What to Craft Using Membranes in Starfield
Membranes may be used to craft Antibiotics, Heal Paste, Penicillin X, and Injectors, which are all different Aid items. These healing supplies cure various status effects depending on the type of Aid they provide based on their icon and color coding. For example, an Aid item with a matching symbol for the burn condition would be able to heal your character from the burning condition.
Distilled Water is another item that can be crafted with Membranes, mainly as an ingredient for other recipes for items like Alien Tea.
Some Pharmacology projects at the Research Lab require you to collect Membranes as well, allowing you to boost your character's Performance Enhancement and Medical Treatment skills. While the best planets to farm Membranes may be tricky to find at first in Starfield, the creatures that carry the material are easy enough to take down so that you can grab this resource in bulk.
