Warning: Contains spoilers for Storm #9!
Since the beginning of the X-Men’s latest era and Ororo Munroe’s return to the Avengers, Storm has been taken over by an all-powerful cosmic entity that helps her access previously unseen heights of her iconic abilities. With a surprising glimpse into the Marvel Universe’s near future, the ongoing Storm solo series has just proved that Ororo’s upgrades are still taking shape, as the mutant hero displays “limitless” strength and power.
In Storm #9, written by Murewa Ayodele with art by Lucas Werneck, Ororo details her struggles with becoming the new host of Eternity and how the entity possesses her body and leaves her memory cloudy. Storm discovers a new cosmic being in her sanctuary, Abraxas, who is meant to help the Eternal Storm achieve their devastating final form.
By the end of the issue, the previewed future shows that combining the powers of Abraxas and Eternity gives Storm an “infinite escalation” to what is already an infinite supply of power, truly making them an almighty force to be reckoned with.

As Eternity prepares to go to war with Oblivion, the cosmic entity has been pushing Ororo Munroe’s abilities to immeasurable new peaks, but the being’s unquenchable thirst for power could wind up being its downfall. Although the Eternal Storm has become one of the strongest versions of the hero, the powerful form is achieved by Eternity taking over Storm’s body, and the entity’s already been using it to commit violence and other “atrocities”, as Ororo herself puts it. To achieve universal dominance, Eternity has employed the help of Fantastic Four villain Abraxas, bringing the potentially multiverse-destroying entity into Storm’s Sanctuary.

Marvel's New Silver Surfer Is Coming, And You Won't Believe Who It Is
With "The Thunder War" set to rock the Marvel Universe, a surprising hero has taken up the mantle of the Silver Surfer, but is it permanent?
Abraxas is called a “bomb entity” and the “physical embodiment of destruction” in Storm #9, and it’s clear that Eternity plans to use this overwhelmingly destructive force, along with unlocking Storm’s ultimate power, to assert their cosmic supremacy. As they prepare to face Oblivion and Hadad, using Abraxas as a “cosmic battery” creates the most powerful version of the Eternal Storm seen yet. However, before this glimpse into the future, Ororo takes issue with Eternity’s methods and vows to kill the cosmic entity, meaning there could be an even more grand final form waiting once Storm finally takes the reins.

How Marvel Is Transforming An Iconic Hero
Storm writer Murewa Ayodele stated that this story was pitched as an epic saga, and that’s exactly what the series has delivered on an epic scale. From Storm’s extremely powerful new Sanctuary and ship, a brewing war with other Storm Gods, and shaking up the cosmic hierarchy of the Marvel Universe, Storm has given an iconic hero a definitive adventure that brings the character into the future. Though Storm is stuck in a war with infinitely powerful entities that are trying to use her for their own motives, the story will seemingly prove why she still ranks above them all.
Storm continues to get immense cosmic upgrades to rock the universe, but she may prove that she doesn’t even need any extra powers to be Marvel’s greatest force of nature.
The ending of Storm #9 provides a major twist, revealing that Oblivion has already been slain by Hadad, and Eternity doesn’t know what’s coming. With Hadad taking care of Oblivion, and Ororo also promising to kill Eternity by the end of this story, the ultimate form of the Eternity-possessed Storm might just be one more step on the way to revealing Earth’s Mightiest Mutant’s true power as a solo hero. Storm continues to get immense cosmic upgrades to rock the universe, but she may prove that she doesn’t even need any extra powers to be Marvel’s greatest force of nature.
