Includes SPOILERS for The Stormlight Archive through Wind and Truth and Mistborn eras 1 & 2

Wind and Truth's climactic finish had a lot to offer for Cosmere fans, and it's especially exciting in regards to the next Wind and Truth's ending features the longest scene with Thaidakar, better known by Mistborn fans as Kelsier, that's been shown in years, tying the two stories together.

Despite the original Mistborn trilogy being Brandon Sanderson's most widely read work, there's been a significant wait for the next installment. There's only been one Mistborn book since 2016, which is 2022's The Lost Metal, and the next series is still years away. For now, there's plenty of time to speculate about what Sanderson has cooking for the trilogy, which has been titled Mistborn: Ghostbloods and is set to be in an era with 1980s early computer technology.

Wind And Truth Syncs Up The Stormlight Archive & Mistborn's Next Eras

Mistborn Era 3 Should Happen At The Same Time As Stormlight Arc 2

The Cosmere's timeline has always been a bit vague, but Wind and Truth's ending solidified some connections between Scadrial and Roshar. The Stormlight Archive takes place after Mistborn era 1, but before era 2. At the end of Wind and Truth, Wit is killed on Roshar and his body regenerates in Ulaam's lab on Scadrial. From there, he gets a job as Waxillium Ladrian's carriage driver. However, the scene between Shallan and Thaidakar is also revealing. Thaidakar states that Roshar is in a time bubble, and a decade ing on Roshar will be 70-80 years elsewhere.

Kelsier mentions at the end of The Lost Metal that Iyatil is still alive and potentially a threat, but Wind and Truth's ending sees him learn of her death. That means that in Shallan and Thaidakar's scene, Scadrial has already progressed through to the end of Mistborn era 2. It's confusing, but the main takeaway is this: The Stormlight Archive arc 2 is meant to be set 10 years later on Roshar, while Mistborn era 3 is going to be roughly 80 years after era 2 on Scadrial, meaning the next chapters of each story will occur simultaneously.

Mistborn Era 3 Will Continue The Ghostbloods Storyline

Kelsier Will Be More Important In Mistborn: Ghostbloods

Kelsier art from Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn series

The Ghostbloods are a Scadrian organization, yet they've been featured more prominently in The Stormlight Archive than they have in Mistborn so far. That will undoubtedly change in Sanderson's new trilogy. The main protagonist is planned to be a young Terriswoman, but Kelsier should have a more direct role, which means the series will be more Cosmere-oriented, following up the Trell narrative from Mistborn era 2. It may be a while before The Stormlight Archive book 6, but there should be some connections to look forward to in Mistborn.
