Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life is a charming remake of the original and provides players a chance to experience farm life that goes beyond simply spending all their time working on crops and crafting. Due to the nature of the story, marriage is a requirement for progression, and at the end of the first year, the game will essentially force a player to partner up if they have not already found love. Dating and marriage are a major focus at the beginning of the game, followed by strengthening relationships with your spouse and having a baby, which happens very quickly after marriage.
8 Matthew
In the original game, Matthew was called Marlin and was a greasy bad boy. For the Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life remake, his character has more than a new name and hairstyle but also is a sullen and stand-offish type of guy. He is Vesta's brother and gives the impression of being very broody and cynical, although through getting to know him better players can discover that he is actually very shy and has many sweet qualities as well.
7 Nami
Nami loves to travel and is a very introverted person who doesn't want to make friends generally. She has a very pessimistic attitude and likes her solitary lifestyle. Though she is well-liked by everyone, she is a hard one to woo due to her lack of interest in socializing. She lives in the inn, and is often seen simply wandering in the Valley exploring.
6 Gordy
Gordy is an artist of sorts who lives in a trailer and makes sculptures by punching the metal and bending it with his bare hands. His technique is definitely creative, but he also is very sullen and lost in his own head a lot. He often has his arms crossed as he is walking around town, and strangely, his character will not accept presents while they are crossed. His quiet and artistic nature is intriguing, and his character is a vast improvement over his previous style as Cody in the original A Wonderful Life where he looked downright scary.
5 Rock
Rock is a carefree guy who loves to party and goof off and is known for avoiding any form of work at all costs to hang out instead. His parents are worried about his future, but Rock also has a very high self-esteem to the extent that it is hard not to laugh at his exaggerated charisma and lack of concern. Though he is a cheerful and charming character, he might not present the best work ethic.
4 Lumina
Lumina is a pianist who is Romana's granddaughter and grew up there in the Valley. She has a very proper and shy personality, but she comes out of her shell more as friendship levels increase. She has an obvious crush on the player's character and becomes extremely disappointed if she is not the chosen marriage partner. One fun aspect of Lumina's character is that the developers for Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life programmed it so that throughout the course of the game her piano playing becomes better and better as she continues to practice.
3 Molly
Molly is a very pretty girl with a very positive outlook on life. Like the player's character, Molly is from the city and moved to Forgotten Valley to find a quieter life, although she seems to miss the activity of the city. She works part-time at the Bluebird Café and spends her free time traveling to and from the city for various events. She confides that she has struggled with dating in the city, but she is sweet and friendly.
2 Gustafa
Gustafa is the hippie of Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life and is definitely one of the more unique characters around, yet he is also one of the sweetest. He loves music and nature and lives in a yurt. He is often found on the beach or in the forest playing his guitar and will write a song while the player is romancing him. Incidentally, the children that a player gets from marrying Gustafa are also some of the cutest.
1 Cecilia
Cecilia is the quintessential girl next door with a positive attitude and love of life. She is always smiling and has an obvious crush on the player's character but will go out of her way to help set them up with someone else if they show an interest in one of the other singles. She has a love of animals and plants and moved to Forgotten Valley to follow that ion, and now she helps out on Vesta's farm as a farmhand. Cecilia is the sweetest and kindest of characters in Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life who has the greatest joy about everything she sees. Even when it is raining, she will be seen outside happily enjoying the rainfall.
While most farming games offer romance and marriage as an option, in A Wonderful Life players are forced to choose a marriage partner, so the story can progress after year one. The focus of the narrative quickly shifts after marriage to the experience of raising a child and building a stronger bond with the character's spouse. Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life tries to give players a broader focus than just one point in time and lets them see more of a life story unfold before them, and hopefully with the spouse of their dreams by their side.
