Halloween Horror Nights Hollywood's creative director, John Murdy, reveals what element of the Stranger Things haunted house shocked and impressed Netflix. Stranger Things has become a standard for Halloween Horror Nights since debuting in 2018, bringing the first season to life for fans. In 2019, the second experience covered both the second and third seasons. Now, it's back with season 4, as guests step into the Vecna-centric narrative.

During a press event for Halloween Horror Nights Hollywood, which Screen Rant attended, Murdy revealed how the Stranger Things haunted house begins. He explains that visitors will be able to walk through Eddie's trailer, where they'll see the contorted Chrissy after her encounter with Vecna. Murdy also shares that Netflix was so impressed with the sculpt of Chrissy that they asked if Halloween Horror Nights was working off a 3D model. Check out Murdy's full quote below:

John Murdy: We start exactly where the series starts with Eddie's trailer, where Chrissy encounters Vecna at the very, very beginning of the show. So what we're building here is Eddie's trailer; there's a whole audio-lighting sequence that happens while you're waiting out front, where you hear Chrissy screaming blue murder and Eddie going crazy. [Chrissy's] up in the air, elevated; all her bones are twisted and broken. And that jaw is completely ripped up. It was cool when I sent the sculpt, cause it's a custom sculpt our makeup artist does for Chrissy. When I sent it to Netflix, they were like, "How did you do that? Did you have a 3D model?"

How Halloween Horror Nights Keeps Raising The Stakes With Stranger Things

Stranger Things has been a staple at Halloween Horror Nights, with haunted houses covering the first three seasons. Now it's returned to bring fans back to Hawkins once again as they experience the terrifying fourth season. The sickening mutilation of Chrissy was a huge part of Stranger Things season 4, kicking off Eddie's journey with the crew as they try to figure out how to defeat Vecna. The fact that the details were so exact that Netflix assumed Halloween Horror Nights was working off a model should get fans excited for another terrifying adventure in Hawkins.

With each Stranger Things experience at Halloween Horror Nights, they've upped the ante, just as the series has with each season. This will likely be the scariest yet with Vecna at the forefront, as every step visitors take will bring them closer to the terrifying being. Halloween Horror Nights' attention to detail is a huge part of what makes these haunted houses so iconic, bringing moments from the movies, television series, and even video games to life for guests to experience firsthand.

Season 4 of Stranger Things enraptured audiences once more, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that it sparked that same inspiration in the Halloween Horror Nights creative team. Although they've worked with Netflix many times now, it's exciting to learn that they managed to surprise them with their accuracy, and while this is only one early moment in the haunted house, it speaks to how detail-oriented they are through the entire process. There is a reason Stranger Things continues to return as a centerpiece of Halloween Horror Nights, and it seems the new haunted house will once again prove exactly why.
