Netflix has revealed the release date for Stranger Things season 5 since the previous season ran in Spring/Summer 2022. Three years between seasons is a long gap, but the Duffer Brothers' iconic sci-fi/horror coming-of-age series is still one of the most eagerly awaited new releases of the year, with millions of fans waiting to see what happens to the beloved characters in the show's final run.
Netflix has confirmed that Stranger Things season 5 will be released in three parts, with volume one on November 26, 2025, volume two on Christmas Day, 2025, and the series finale on New Year's Eve. Volume one will include episodes 1-4, while volume two will contain episodes 5-7, with one final episode scheduled to drop on December 31, each being released at 5:00 p.m. PST. Netflix has also revealed its season 5 synopsis, which can be read below:
“The fall of 1987. Hawkins is scarred by the opening of the Rifts, and our heroes are united by a single goal: find and kill Vecna. But he has vanished — his whereabouts and plans unknown. Complicating their mission, the government has placed the town under military quarantine and intensified its hunt for Eleven, forcing her back into hiding. As the anniversary of Will’s disappearance approaches, so does a heavy, familiar dread. The final battle is looming — and with it, a darkness more powerful and more deadly than anything they’ve faced before. To end this nightmare, they’ll need everyone — the full party — standing together, one last time.”
What Stranger Things Season 5's Three-Part Release Means
Stranger Things Will Be The TV Event Of The Holiday Season
The Netflix release strategy of dropping all episodes of a series on a single day has its merits, and the binge-watchable format allowed for Stranger Things to be a lightning-in-a-bottle hit when it first came out. However, the debate has been ongoing throughout the streaming age, as some audiences prefer the ongoing experience of weekly releases. Netflix experimented with a volume one and two release plan for Stranger Things season 4, and now they're taking it a step further with season 5.
For Stranger Things season 5, a unique release strategy during the holiday season, covering Thanksgiving weekend, Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve, can transform the show's ending from a massive hit to a widespread cultural phenomenon. Those who love to binge-watch their shows and those who want their favorite titles to be spread out over a set of weeks will both be satisfied, as fans can spend the holidays enjoying and chatting about the shocking final episodes, building toward an epic finale.
