James Gunn just shared a humorous reaction to John Cena doing an interview in his Cena will star in The Suicide Squad as the Peacemaker, a comic book character who has previously never been brought to light on the big screen.
This new Suicide Squad film is a sort of reboot/sequel to the 2016 version of the movie after that film was met with poor reviews. The original film was directed by David Ayer, who decided not to direct the sequel and instead developed a Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) and Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), but also introduces new characters like Cena's Peacemaker.
In a recent interview with Shaq, Cena was seen wearing his Peacemaker costume from The Suicide Squad. After seeing this interview, Gunn took to Twitter and claimed that he was not forcing Cena to wear the costume and that he found it funny that he was even doing so. In the interview, Cena even mentions that he is ready to talk about The Suicide Squad if Shaq had any questions for him despite the conversation being about Shaq and his AEW debut.
Beyond just The Suicide Squad, Gunn and Cena will be working together on an HBO Max original spin-off series titled revealing spoilers for The Suicide Squad. However, the show could still showcase Peacemaker's origin and feature other characters from the movie. The new HBO Max series will star Danielle Brooks, Robert Patrick, Jennifer Holland, Chris Conrad, Chukwudi Iwuji, Christopher Heyerdahl, and Steve Agee.
Gunn recently provided the first photos from the set of Peacemaker which is currently aiming for a January 2022 release. The show is essentially a spin-0ff of a movie that no one has seen yet. This suggests that both Gunn and Cena have a lot of confidence in that character and that Peacemaker could even play an important role in The Suicide Squad's story. There is already a great deal of excitement for the series as Gunn has amassed an impressive cast, and Cena continues to be a fan-favorite actor. While Cena is likely just wearing his costume for fun during interviews, it truly is a great way to both The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker.
