Out of all the amazing transformations that have been introduced to the Dragon Ball franchise over the years, Super Saiyan 4 is one of the most beloved. This form, although not as powerful as those that use godly Ki as their base, has been a fan-favorite since its introduction back in 1997.
Its fame is such that followers of the series all around the world rejoiced when Daima made it canon recently. Yet, the latest appearance of the form was not the only one that has been seen during the last couple of years. Gohan and Broly, two of the most powerful Saiyans, were already able to use this technique in non-canon material. It might be time for them to obtain this form in the main timeline of the series.
Gohan and Broly Should Obtain Super Saiyan 4
Both Warriors Have Been Seen Using the Technique
Inside Dragon Ball’s universe, Super Saiyan 4 is considered one of the strongest transformations ever introduced to the series. It is referred to as the culmination of a Saiyan’s journey, only obtained when the warrior fully accepts and becomes one with their latent Golden Great Ape power. The form was first introduced in the GT series, used by Goku on several occasions to defeat some of the franchise’s most powerful characters. For many decades, this form was considered the pinnacle of power among fans of the franchise.
Recently, the stories included in side content, such as the popular yet controversial video game Dragon Ball Heroes, have depicted unusual characters being able to obtain this form. The most notable ones, due to their popularity and the fact that they are naturally strong and talented fighters, are Gohan and Broly. These two imposing warriors have always distinguished themselves by having the most potential among the Z Warriors, making them perfect candidates to receive this ability. The idea of granting Gohan and Broly access to Super Saiyan 4 has been in fans’ minds for decades, ever since the skill was revealed.

Dragon Ball: Every Z Fighter Ranked From Weakest to Strongest
The Z Fighters have always been some of the strongest characters in Dragon Ball, but their standings have changed significantly over the years.
It seems that the team behind the series might have similar ideas, as these warriors have been seen using the form on several occasions in recent years. With the transformation becoming canon after almost 40 years, thanks to the Daima anime, this could be the perfect opportunity to explore this possibility, one of the many plot holes the series left behind. Gohan and Broly’s Super Saiyan 4 designs are ready to become a part of the main storyline, and fans will likely be pleased to see them the cast.
Super Saiyan 4’s Rules Might Have Changed
It Might No Longer Be Required for the To Be a Pure Saiyan
According to the old GT canon, the reason why many powerful characters were never able to achieve the Super Saiyan 4 transformation was the fact that they were not "pure". Only the original of this warrior race were able to conquer the power of the Golden Great Ape and evolve into their final form. Those who were not pure Saiyans could not access these powers, as their human blood prevented them from fully embracing their heritage. However, according to what fans could see during the ending of Daima, these rules no longer apply to the transformation.
Goku was not irradiated with any kind of wave, nor did he fight against his internal Great Ape self to achieve Super Saiyan 4. The form was likely unlocked by Neva utilizing his potential awakening ability on the hero, a decision that might have debunked a major theory surrounding the character. This implies that, at least until new details are revealed about the process of unlocking the form in the canon timeline, there is no need for someone to be a pure Saiyan to obtain the fourth level.

Dragon Ball Super's Return Is More Unlikely Than Ever Before According to a Disappointing New Report
A new report on Toyotaro, the artist for Dragon Ball Super, hints that it may yet be a while before the series returns, to the disappointment of fans.
Broly’s case is still odd, as he was always technically able to utilize this technique, seeing as even his widely different Z version was a pure-born Saiyan. Nevertheless, this only adds fuel to the theory that characters who were not born on planet Vegeta should be able to access their fourth transformation. Gohan and Broly have potential several times higher than Goku's or Vegeta’s, making them the perfect candidates to achieve this transformation now that no extra requirements need to be fulfilled to obtain it.
Daima Season 2 Could Explain Why They Don’t Have This Power
The Anime Still Needs to Address the Requirements for Super Saiyan 4
One of the main reasons why no other character has been able to achieve the Super Saiyan 4 transformation, even years after the ending of the Daima anime, is that there might be hidden rules fans are not yet aware of. The ending of the most recent show opened the door for a sequel to be released in the future, thanks to the revelation that the Third Evil Eye was not a unique treasure.
If Goku and his friends venture again into the Demon Realm, Neva or another ancient inhabitant of the dimension might explain that only certain individuals can control and harness Super Saiyan 4. The conditions inside the demon’s home universe might also have affected Goku during the final battle, forcing his body to evolve into that form. Until the details behind how someone can achieve this form are revealed, Gohan and Broly might never be given a chance.
Do Gohan and Broly Truly Need Super Saiyan 4?
Both Warriors Have Forms Mightier Than This One
Although indeed, Broly and Gohan gaining access to the Super Saiyan 4 transformation would be an amazing gift for Dragon Ball fans, the reality is that neither needs it. During the latest movie in the franchise’s long list, Super Hero, Goku’s son once again sured his limits and unlocked a powerful new form: Best Mode. This imposing transformation was confirmed by Piccolo to be equally powerful as Goku or Vegeta using their godly abilities. Chapter #102 of the Super manga proved that even someone utilizing the Ultra Instinct technique would have trouble fighting against Gohan’s new skill.
Both Gohan and Broly are more than capable of defeating powerful opponents without having access to Super Saiyan 4.
The Legendary Super Saiyan form that Broly can access is also several times stronger than Super Saiyan 4 has proven to be. The form not only increases in power over time, but it is also boosted by the emotions of the . Goku and Vegeta were forced to fuse and access their Super Saiyan Blue forms to defeat this imposing adversary. Even without full control over his abilities, Broly was among the most powerful of the Saiyan race, far suring elite fighters like Vegeta or his father. Both characters are more than capable of defeating powerful opponents without having access to Super Saiyan 4.
