After the celebration of Superman Day on April 18, a new promotional poster for the DC Universe film Superman was released. Directed by DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn, the film stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, as well as Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Nathan Fillion, Edi Gathegi, Isabella Merced, Anthony Carrigan, and Frank Grillo. It is set for release on July 11, 2025.

The new poster features Corenswet in his Superman suit crossing his arms in front of a blue sky background. The image appears to be a reference to a famous artwork by legendary comic book artist Alex Ross, known for, among many other projects, the Superman-heavy DC miniseries Kingdom Come, that features a suited-up Clark with a similar pose and background. The colors of the image are vibrant, continuing the lighter approach that the marketing for Superman has taken when compared to the prior DC Extended Universe.

What The New Superman Movie Poster Means

The Spotlight Is On Superman

Superman has a large roster of characters beyond the typical expected trio of Clark, Lois Lane, and Lex Luthor. In additon to the Man of Steel, other confirmed superheroes in the film include Krypto the Superdog, Metamorpho, Hawkgirl, Green Lantern, and the Engineer. Even more are suspected to appear, including Millie Alcock's Supergirl. As such, the choice to release a poster focusing solely on Superman seems deliberate, as if to emphasize that this film is still about him.

Aside from limiting the featured cast in the image to Corenswet, the poster makes another distinct choice: to honor the character's long comic history. While the lighter colors and posing do resemble some of the promotional photos released of Christopher Reeve's Superman, the inspiration is unmistakably the work of Ross. By promoting the movie in this way, DC emphasizes how this film aims to be quintessential Superman.

Our Take On The New Superman Movie Poster

DC Sets The Tone For Superman

Superman 2025 and Krypto

Between this poster and the recent Superman Day behind the scenes trailer, DC is ramping up its marketing push for Superman's July release. A commonality among the various promotional releases is the idea of looking up, which has a twofold meaning. It is, of course, a reference to the classic line, "Look up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! It's Superman!"

However, the other significance is that Superman is meant to be an aspirational figure, someone to look up to who represents hope and kindness. The continued optimism in the marketing for Superman promises a lighter, kinder hero, which might just be what the world needs right now.
