Warning! Spoilers ahead for Action Comics #1085!As fans look forward to James Gunn's rebooted DC Universe, new costume for Superman that would fit right into DC's cinematic universe.
In Action Comics #1085 by G. Willow Wilson and Gavin Guidry, Lois Lane es an investigative piece about an arctic research station to her husband. Clark is reluctant to go, but Lois reminds him it gives him a chance to unwind at the Fortress of Solitude (though she advises him to wear something more discreet).
Just as Clark arrives at the station, it’s attacked by cybernetic-enhanced polar bears. Thankfully, he has time to slip away and become his alter ego. However, rather than his usual blue and red costume, Superman’s swapped it out for a white one with blue accents.
Superman Debuts His Brand-New Arctic Look
The Man of Tomorrow Has a Cool, Film-Ready Costume
While there's plenty of amazing outfits in the DCU, if any hero has a look that could be considered iconic, it'd be Superman. The Man of Tomorrow's iconic red and blue garb is one of the most recognizable images in the world. From his flowing cape, to the oversized family crest on his chest, and even the circus strongman-looking shorts, there's hardly an element of the outfit that doesn't work. But as cool as his outfit is, Superman has had plenty of different variants over the years, such as his all-black Recovery suit or his infamous Superman Blue look.
This is the perfect costume for an arctic environment. Of course, it's not going to replace Superman's standard look and chances are it might not appear much once this arc is concluded. But a costume of that quality could take on a second life, especially if it winds up appearing in James Gunn's rebooted DCU. Granted, his Man of Steel has a new, or at least altered, costume. But it's not uncommon for superhero movies to feature more than one costume (if for no other reason than merchandising), so why not bring Superman’s arctic costume to the new DCU?
Gunn's DC Universe Could Make Superman's Arctic Costume Film Canon
More Costumes Would Make the DCU Feel More Lived-In
It's clear from preview clips and trailers that Gunn's DCU is one with some history behind it. Nothing would sell that better than if Superman already had an arctic costume on-hand, implying he's already had a few adventures with it. It would be cool to see Superman deviate from his more traditional look for a scene or two and be an interesting way of hinting at the new Man of Steel's history. While it remains to be seen what will happen with Superman's new all-white costume, one can hope it or something similar will show up in Gunn's DCU.
