WARNING: Contains Potential Spoilers for ABSOLUTE SUPERMAN #5!Absolute Superman's costume is one of the most unique and kickass aspects of the character. And just when fans thought they had seen everything it had to offer, the latest release proved them wrong, revealing an exceptionally badass capability—one that would make even Batman green with envy.

As in previous issues, Absolute Superman #5—by Jason Aaron, Rafa Sandoval, Ulises Arreola, and Becca Carey—shifts between the present and the past, with the latter focusing on Kal-El’s life on Krypton before its destruction. This issue follows the El family and as many Kryptonians as they could fit on their escape ship, desperately fleeing as the planet self-destructs.

Just when it seems they might make it to safety, massive chunks of Kryptonite, hurled into the air by the explosion, tear the ship apart. But as the Kryptonians and Kal-El plummet, something extraordinary happens—their suits morph into individual escape ships.

Absolute Superman #5 focuses on the final hours of Krypton, with Jor-El and Lara-El doing everything they can to save those they can. As they load up the ship with the gathered Kryptonians, they instruct everyone, "Let the ship bond with you and become your spacesuit. Every part of the vessel is a whole in and of itself, so we’ll all be safe once we take off…” Sandoval’s artwork complements this by showing a lava-like substance seeping from the ship into the Kryptonians’ clothes, effectively transforming them into spacesuits. Fast forward to the ship’s launch, where it’s struck by Kryptonite, and we see these spacesuits in action.

As Kal and the other Kryptonians plummet toward the ground, their suits activate. Kal’s suit morphs into a shield, transforming into an individual spaceship as it announces, “Do not be afraid, Kal-El. I am Sol, your exploratory space suit. I will protect you.” Fans have encountered Sol in previous issues, where he serves as Superman’s AI companion, embedded within Kal’s suit. While Sol has always been impressive, the fact that this technology can create an entire ship on command takes it to a whole new level—something Batman would undoubtedly envy.

Thus far, Absolute Superman appears to match his Earth-Prime counterpart in of powers and abilities. However, given that Absolute Kal-El has an extremely powerful AI suit—likely with even more capabilities we haven’t yet seen—his powerset is more expansive than the traditional Man of Steel, making him potentially even more overpowered than Clark. That said, this doesn’t necessarily mean he could defeat Earth-Prime Superman in a fight, even with Sol’s assistance. While Absolute Kal has the advantage of his artificial suit, Earth-Prime Superman’s greater experience would likely balance the scales.
