In the new preview for Superman #32, Superboy face off against an extraterrestrial threat. Continuing DC's recent trend of the father-son team-up, it would seem that DC is positioning them to be one of their leading tag teams in their future books. Since Jonathan's return from the 31st century, he has been teaming up with his father as seen in Superman #29. However, Jonathan's had some doubts about Superman's safety due to tales from the future about his death.
Superman #30 will mark the start of a three-issue arc where both Jonathan and Clark venture out into the depths of space, after receiving a distress beacon from an old ally. Superman and Superboy are in deep trouble as "The One Who Fell," storyline ends. Will they survive or will this be the day that Superman dies? The creature they face in the preview is known as the Shadowbreed, a cosmic villain that Superman once heroically defeated. But this time the tables have turned as they are back and there is something more to why Superman was lured to this faraway planet.
DC Comics has released a new preview for Superman #32 by Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Sean Lewis, Scott Godlewski, Sami Basri, and John Timms. Superman is likely being set up for a new Death of Superman story arc as the latest issue teased that somehow Superman will die soon. However, the specific time and place of his death remain a mystery. But one thing's certain, Superboy is being prepared by DC to become the next Superman. Check out the cover art below:
It's been a building trend that Superman has become heavily intertwined with his son's story recently, and the preview seems to be continuing it. Superman and Superboy heroically storm into danger, facing off against the Shadowbreed. In Infinite Frontier, Jonathan is judged by The Spectre as being unworthy of his father's mantle, but ultimately, he proves him wrong. In Future State, an enormous emphasis is put on Superman's legacy and how it defines his future successors. Naturally, Jonathan has a lot to live up to but if the issues of Superman prove anything, it's that the duo is a formidable tag team and he will learn a great deal by seeing his father's ways in person.
DC has been adamant that the main timeline's actions could lead to the future seen in their recent line-wide event, but it's all dependant on if the heroes of the present and their choices. So, Jonathan has the chance to not become the reckless "tyrant" that he was described as in the "Superman" story of Infinite Frontier #0 by making his future. It's clear he will take on the Superman mantle, meaning that future books will see Superboy replacing him. And it seems he's doing just that as the ultimate father-son team-up venture to the outer depths of space. Superman #32 will be available in comic book shops and digital platforms on June 8.
