Few characters in fiction are as powerful as Sailor Moon might be close. It's incredibly hard to take Superman on in a fight thanks to his super speed, incredible strength, flight, and his near invulnerability. That's why fans have so much fun pitting Superman against other fictional characters, even in other media, with the most famous being Superman vs. Goku from the Dragon Ball franchise. While there are tons of characters who could give Superman a difficult challenge, not many fans would think that not only could Sailor Moon give Superman some trouble, she might even be able to beat him.

It's well-known how absurdly powerful Superman is, especially when compared to other DC Comics characters, but not a lot of people are aware of just how strong Sailor Moon is. A lot of Sailor Moon's public perception is as a teenage girl who fights monsters of the week while dealing with romance. At first, it might not seem like there's anything truly epic about her or her power scale, especially compared to others. But that's just her surface. Those who followed the anime to the end or read the manga know that Sailor Moon is a powerhouse on a universal scale, and she might just have what it takes to defeat Superman in a head-to-head battle.

5 Superman Might Just Be Faster Than Sailor Moon

Superman Could Beat Sailor Moon in a Race

Speed is a tricky thinpowerg to measure, especially when both characters are in different universes with different rules. Sailor Moon has the speed to instantly cross her universe, but that universe has some serious limitations. While Sailor Moon's universe-crossing speed might seem about as fast as someone can get, it's important to keep in mind the scale. The DC Universe is massive, making it significantly larger than the average fictional universe. Sailor Moon's ability to traverse her world instantly is definitely impressive, but it pales in comparison to some of Superman's speed feats, which make him one of the fastest superheroes of all time.

Not only is he as fast as the Flash, but Superman has demonstrated the ability to move through solid objects by using his speed to vibrate his atoms.

Superman has often demonstrated that he can keep up with the Flash, who is one of the fastest characters in all fiction - period, no matter the genre, form, or world. Not only is he as fast as the Flash, but Superman has demonstrated the ability to move through solid objects by using his speed to vibrate his atoms (a power that is, in fact, similar to other DC speedsters' power sets).

Superman has also shown the ability to travel through time through sheer speed alone. Now, make no mistake: Sailor Moon is also capable of traveling through time, but not because of her speed; that's another power altogether. Because Superman can use his speed to literally time travel, fans can firmly place Superman as significantly faster than Sailor Moon. But unfortunately, speed isn't the only thing that a hero needs to win a fight, even when the fight is between heroes.

4 Superman Can Resist the Majority of What Sailor Moon Throws at Him

Superman's Invulneraility Is a Major Asset

Superman's absurd invulnerability is really no joke, and the power just keeps getting stronger as the years go on. He has resisted all kinds of attacks in the past, and he'd be able to resist some of Sailor Moon's strongest moves. Sailor Moon has the power to erase beings from existence, which she gained from Galaxia, and so does Darkseid's Omega Effect, which Superman has resisted in the past.

If Superman can resist Darkseid's greatest power - and Darkseid is certainly one of DC's most powerful villains of all time - there's no guarantee that Sailor Moon would be able to erase Superman from existence, despite it being one of her most powerful attacks. Sailor Moon also has complete control over time thanks to the Pluto Crystal, and even that great ability wouldn't stop Superman for long.

Both of these Sailor Moon powers seem like unstoppable abilities, but, as mentioned above, Sailor Moon's "existence erase" power isn't guaranteed to work on Superman, due to his ability to resist being erased by the Omega Effect, one of the most powerful attacks in the DC Universe. Sailor Moon's "time stop" power isn't entirely accurate either, as after the New God Esak puts Superman in "full chrono-suspension," Superman still broke out of the strange prison. Superman's durability and resistance are just on a level that Sailor Moon has never had to deal with. But again, just because someone can take a punch doesn't mean they can win a fight.

3 Sailor Moon's Range Is Far Beyond Superman's

Superman's Power Set Is Limited by His Biology

Sailor Cosmos is one of the most powerful variants of Sailor Moon: a version of her from the future who has finally reached her full potential. This version of Sailor Moon wields the Cosmos Crystal, which, in turn, comes with the Lambda Power. This power allows Sailor Moon to remake the universe as she sees fit. This power is on a universal scale, which means that there's no running from it, and there's no avoiding it.

If someone is in the same universe as Sailor Moon, they will be affected by her Lambda.

Therefore, if Superman and Sailor Moon shared a universe for this hypothetical fight, Superman would have absolutely no way to avoid her cosmic-level powers. Even if Superman were to travel back in time, the Lambda power is capable of affecting the entire timeline as well. Whether Superman is in the past, present, or future, he will be affected by Sailor Moon's abilities.

This power feat is truly on another level, and Superman has proven to be very vulnerable to powers like these in the past. Vyndktvx, for example, was an evil fifth-dimensional imp who decided to attack Superman from different points in time, including by murdering Clark Kent's parents. Superman had no way to defend against this brutal attack, especially since it involved wild amounts of time travel. Even after Vyndktvx was defeated, the damage that he had done couldn't be fixed. This past example is very similar to how Sailor Moon could use the Lambda power to attack Superman at any point in time - or even at every point in time at once.

2 Sailor Moon's Power Scaling Is Completely Ridiculous

Superman's Power Just Doesn't Compare

One of the biggest criticisms that are applied to certain mangas is the absurdity of their characters' power scaling. Goku from Dragon Ball, for example, can survive a planet-destroying energy blast but gets knocked out of a fight by having a rock thrown at his head.

In many manga and anime series - including those starring Sailor Moon - new enemies constantly appear who are stronger than the last, which results in the characters getting even stronger - sometimes to a ridiculous degree. Sailor Moon definitely falls into this category, as in Eternal Sailor Moon she was able to take out Queen Nehelenia with one shot, despite the fact that this villain was currently ing the dark universe.

Being able to instantly defeat a being capable of ing an entire universe seems like the absolute height of a character's power, but Sailor Moon's power levels get even more absurd from there. Sailor Moon defeated Queen Nehelenia in the fourth arc of Eternal. In the fifth arc, Eternal Sailor Moon was actually weaker than Sailor Moon in her civilian form, which means that, just walking down the street, Usagi possessed more power than a version of her that destroyed a universal being.

It's hard to imagine how Superman could possibly stand up to that level of power, especially when it seems like Sailor Moon is constantly leveling up with no end in sight. While Superman has achieved great power feats like knocking down Gods, he's never obliterated a being capable of creating a universe with a single attack.

1 Superman Doesn't Have Any Actual Way to Defeat Sailor Moon

There's No Simple Answer

Superman has fought plenty of powerful and durable villains - and even other heroes - but Sailor Moon's durability is on an entirely different level. It's already questionable if Superman could actually hurt Sailor Moon, but there's no possible way that he could defeat her for good. Even if Sailor Moon's body were to be completely destroyed, the Lambda Power would automatically bring her back to life. Even if Sailor Moon were to be erased from existence, the Lambda Power would just revive her again.

The only way to destroy Sailor Moon once and for all would be to destroy her entire spirit and her very essence. But considering Sailor Moon's spirit is tied to the universe itself, Superman would have to wipe out the entire universe just to make sure Sailor Moon couldn't come back to life, and it's hard to imagine Superman making such a choice.

Superman simply doesn't have the power to hurt Sailor Moon in any real capacity.

Not only is wiping out an entire universe something Superman would never do, it's something he doesn't even have the inherent power to do. Ignoring everything else, Superman simply doesn't have the power to hurt Sailor Moon in any real capacity. Superman cannot possibly destroy an entire universe's worth of energy to prevent Sailor Moon from regenerating. On the other hand, Sailor Moon certainly has enough power to strike Superman down if she wanted to, even in her civilian form. While it might not seem like it at first, if these two heroes were to fight, it's likely that Superman wouldn't stand a chance against Sailor Moon.
