Supernatural changes a lot between seasons 1-15, I felt that the core of the story remained strong even as new monsters and characters graced the screen. Despite its shaky ending, the series still has a strong staying power with its fans years later, myself included.

Supernatural's series finale was able to bring the story of the Winchesters to a close, but the cast continues to shine in other projects, which is so nice to see and demonstrates one of the reasons why this show is still so popular. Between Jensen Ackles' and Jeffrey Dean Morgan's appearances in The Boys and Jared Padalecki's Walker, the cast continues to showcase their talent even as they move away from the horror space. But one MCU and horror star found fame on Supernatural, with season 10 giving her one of her breakout roles that I forgot about: Kathryn Newton.

Supernatural Was One Of Kathryn Newton's Breakout Roles Before The MCU & Horror Fame

Newton Starred As Claire Novak From Season 10-13

Newton starred as Claire Novak in Supernatural, which turned into one of her breakout roles before she moved to the MCU and horror movie sphere. Claire Novak was the daughter of Jimmy Novak (Misha Collins), who was the acting vessel for Castiel. She only truly becomes one of the established Supernatural in season 10, reconnecting with the Winchesters and slowly learning to trust them and Castiel. They have a rocky start since Claire blames them for everything that continues to go wrong in her life, such as the death of her surrogate father Randy (Roark Critchlow).

Her development as a hunter, her budding relationship with Kaia (Yadira Guevara-Prip), and her newfound family were so moving, and it was tragic that we did not get to see more of her story in Wayward Sisters.

However, Claire slowly grows closer to the three, forgiving Castiel and moving in with Jody Mills (Kim Rhodes) where she learns to become a hunter. Seeing her growth was one of my favorite parts of the latter seasons of Supernatural. Her development as a hunter, her budding relationship with Kaia (Yadira Guevara-Prip), and her newfound family were so moving, and it was tragic that we did not get to see more of her story in Wayward Sisters. Still, Newton seems to be holding onto those roots, as she has stayed very strongly in the horror sphere since Supernatural.

What Kathryn Newton Has Done Since Supernatural

Newton Has Largely Shifted To Doing Movies Over Television

Newton has done several films and a few more television shows since Supernatural, largely staying within the horror genre, but also doing some projects outside of it. Right after the series ended, Newton starred in a few different films, including the 2018 comedy Blockers, a far cry from slaying terrifying monsters on Supernatural. As time went on, though, Newton seemingly found her stride in horror, showcasing her immense talent in the genre as well as her ability to add humor to any scary situation. Her horror and non-horror film roles since Supernatural include:

Despite largely focusing on film, Newton has not completely forgotten her television roots. Newton starred in the drama series The Society in 2019 as Allie Pressman until the COVID-19 pandemic caused the series to be canceled after one season. She then had a minor role in the thriller series Big Little Lies as Abigail Carson during the series' two-season run. Newton soon rose in the horror genre after that, which is incredibly fitting considering her start on Supernatural, and only makes me more excited about what she will do next.
