Of all Superstore, the random, dismembered feet that kept reappearing in and around the Cloud 9 was one of the best. When Superstore was still running, fans speculated over where the feet were coming from, who was bringing them to the store, and who they were killing to get them. The two-part series finale answered this with a brief scene styled as the hilarious customer interstitials that the show was known for.
The reveal was both shocking and hilarious and left fans with way more questions than it answered. Some prominent questions, leading to discussions on social media about the identity of the killer, whether it made sense, and who else it could have been from the rest of the characters, based on things they did or said.
Marcus
Marcus was a popular choice for the foot killer, especially in discussions on Reddit. Most fans cited the weird comment he made about Jerusha's feet in the season 4 episode "Salary," as well as other odd aspects of his behavior, like peeing in the shower to sterilize his feet. His severed thumb incident in season 2 is another thing fans pointed out as he later commented that he'd do it again to get more money.
The quotes and his strange habits made him a suspect of many who justified their suspicions on that basis. Wanting to become rich, he always had strange ideas for making money, like the breastmilk cheese, so the notion that he would cut people's limbs off for money might not have been too far-fetched. But then again, most fans believed he wasn't smart enough to pull it off and get away with it.
Brett
Brett was a popular background character, mostly because he always looked so serious and never spoke. Not much was known about his life, so clearly he was capable of keeping a secret, even one as big as a murderous fetish for feet.
One thing that fans pointed out in defense of the theory that Brett might have been the killer was a scene in season 2, episode 17, "Mateo's Last Day." Mateo was hassling Brett, trying to get him to punch him and Brett silently and swiftly pulled a knife on him. The action freaked Mateo out and had the audience wondering if something else was afoot with Brett.
Carol
Carol was definitely not a likable character, especially because of how she treated Sandra. Due to her grudge over Jerry, she put laxatives in the cupcakes for the bachelorette party and planned to throw their cat out of the window during their wedding. This was one of many instances where she behaved erratically and it had the audience suspecting she was capable of doing way worse than killing a cat.
Given her obsession with Sandra and Jerry, if she was the foot killer, her motivation would probably be to frame Sandra for murder so she could get Jerry back. That might be a stretch, but this is the same woman who tried to kill a cat because her ex was marrying someone else.
The Knife Customer
In the episode, "New Initiative," Glenn spoke to a customer buying rope, knives, bleach, and a tarp in preparation for dinner with his mom. Based on that and a later interstitial, where he was looking at knives and doing stabbing motions, the audience was convinced he was planning to kill his mother. He also became a popular suspect for the foot killer because of this.
Although it's likely he only planned to kill his mother, some things made the suspicions somewhat plausible. Based on the items in his shopping cart, he knew everything he needed to get away with the perfect murder and not leave any evidence behind. He also appeared a few episodes later in "Scanners," to return a blood-covered tarp, showing that he frequented the store and was in the perfect position to leave the severed feet.
Jerusha
She didn't appear much on the show but Jerusha had a few memorable scenes nonetheless. One of those was when she made Dina a needlepoint with her face on a stork's body to thank her for being their surrogate. It was totally creepy, even for Dina, who outright refused the gift.
Given her relation to the actual foot killer, some fans wondered if she helped him out from time to time, commenting that she had Saw incident Glenn mentioned when he threw up in his lap while watching the movie but Jerusha made him stay. One fan on Reddit even wrote a detailed theory, explaining why they believed Jerusha was the one leaving severed feet around the store, but most believed she was too innocent to kill.
Glenn
Glenn was a sweet, devout Christian and he acted fatherly towards everyone in the store. It's hard to imagine him doing anything as horrid as killing people and cutting off their feet, given that he couldn't even bring himself to swear.
However, there was the issue of how Cloud 9 bankrupted his family's company, Sturgis and Sons, forcing it to close. Fans in favor of this theory felt like that might have left him bitter enough to do something drastic like plant severed feet around Cloud 9 as revenge. While this is a great point, Glenn wouldn't be able to saw off someone's feet when he couldn't even sit through the movie Saw.
Kelly
Kelly seemed too sweet to be a killer. However, as some Reddit fan suggested, she may have started leaving the feet around the store to startle the Cloud 9 workers after they treated her badly.
The reason why she was a suspect at all was that she was the only Cloud 9 employee, apart from Jeff, who worked at different stores. In one episode when Cheyenne and Mateo were trying to solve the mystery, another foot was found near a different store so the theory was that someone who worked at both locations would have the opportunity to plant the feet.
Dina
Most fans suspected Dina because of her mean streak and how she constantly threatened her workmates with bodily harm or death. Even Cheyenne and Mateo suspected her in one episode when they were trying to solve the mystery of the foot killer. They eventually dismissed Dina because another severed foot was found at a different location while Dina was with them at the store. But, perhaps she had an accomplice.
Dina certainly had the strength to overpower someone and cut off their feet and she wasn't squeamish around blood or with anything gruesome. She also had a temper that usually led to confrontation and picking a fight with others.
Mateo
A few things Mateo said and did made him a ing consideration for some fans. In "Mateo's Last Day," after Jonah suggested he should the military, he said he didn't trust himself with a weapon because he'd like killing too much, which was totally creepy.
The line was dismissed as a joke but if he meant it, that would make him a suspect. Fans on Reddit also mentioned some things he said about his past, like eating human flesh, might point to him being the killer. His creepy behavior when he was disguised as Sal in "Sal's Dead" was another point in favor of this theory.
Kyle The Cloud 9 Cloud
In season 2, Kyle, the brand's mascot, was revealed to be a cannibalistic killer. He killed and dismembered his victims before eating them, which was why some fans suggested he was behind the severed feet. Plus, he had easy access to the stores to plant severed feet from his dismembered victims.
The theory made sense, given his history with killing and how he got away with it for a while. However, since he was discovered before the first foot was found, there's no way he was the one planting them unless he escaped custody.
