  • I think Arrival is a lot of interesting concepts that do not cohesively come together into a great sci-fi story. Because of the themes of language, it really worked a lot better as a short story than it does as a movie.

  • Have never been fully onboard with Amy Adams in most movies she has been in. She is good in this though. Love how the story takes it time to unravel, keeping viewers guessing until it finally comes together in the end. Fascinating look at language and how it connects us.

  • I started watching this because I was looking for a movie that had plot twists. I didn't know anything about it, but going in and knowing it was about aliens, I had my suspicions about what the twist could be but this was incredible. Rarely do we see an alien film where war isn't the entire film. Instead, this entire movie covers those precious early moments of first and you're never bored. The focus on language and trying to understand each other is such an interesting idea and watching it unfold was mesmerizing. You almost felt enchanted in a way and you couldn't help but want to know and understand more. Though events start unfolding as you'd expect they would if this situation were to actually come to , the plot twist of this film is jaw-dropping. I literally could not believe I didn't see it coming, despite knowing there was one, and I genuinely sat on my couch for about an hour after this discussing it because I could not stop thinking about it. For a movie centered around language, it ironically left me speechless.

  • I'm sure I should read the original short story but this movie is great because it inspires you to contemplate questions that we typically take for granted. We rarely consider how language shapes our thinking & this story delves into that vital issue that controls how we see the world. It also explores deep questions of fate vs free will.

I love a movie that makes you think & this one will inspire much contemplation if yoh are up for it.

Arrival is a smart tale of alien that boasts great visuals and performances, if also more brains than heart.
