  • In a world where The Matrix never existed, this film would have become a cult hit on home video and cable, and we'd be getting a 20-years-later sequel of this instead of that. The noir setpieces create a perfect mise-en-scene that carries the movie through its fantastical elements, though the questions of free will and what makes us who we are are as relevant as ever.

Synopsis

Dark City follows a man grappling with lost memories in a sunless, dystopian world. As beings with telekinetic powers manipulate the city's inhabitants, he embarks on a journey to uncover the truth about his past and the mysterious forces controlling their reality.
