  • Sequels often don't land the same way as the original movies do, and unfortunately that is the case with Deadpool 2. However, it is by no means a bad movie and still possesses a lot of the same wit and humor as the first film.

  • Deadpool 2 succeeds at having a far more compelling narrative while still showing off great action and comedy, but it's ultimately brought down by hitting far too many of the same beats of the previous film. Anyone who liked the first Deadpool is sure to like this one, but it's a bit disappointing that it couldn't do more to capitalize on its success.

  • Ryan Reynolds is fun as Wade, and there's a reason Deadpool and Cable hang out so much in the comics - the Merc with a Mouth works with a straight man to roll his eyes. However, the plot is too granular and insubstantial, and the decision to fridge Vanessa remains perplexing. DP2 does very little with what the first movie set up, and that's to its detriment.

  • The story of Deadpool 2 feels like it has a lot more solid of a direction than the first, but it also makes some questionable choices. I could've seen Vanessa's death being the catalyst for Wade's actions from a mile away, but that doesn't mean I'm satisfied with that choice. Nevertheless, Deadpool 2 still holds the charm of the first, though some jokes feel a tiny bit repetitive.

Synopsis

The Merc With the Mouth returns in Deadpool 2, "the sequel to the first one." Wade Wilson finds himself alone and without purpose until he reluctantly agrees to the X-Men. Things take a turn for the strange when Wade finds himself in prison after trying to help a young mutant named Russell, and a time-traveling mutant cyborg arrives to slay Russell to save the future. Determined to save Russell and do the right thing, Wade creates a new team of heroes to fight back and save the world the only way Deadpool knows how - as ridiculously as possible.

Once Upon A Deadpool Review: Deadpool Works OK In PG-13
5/10

Once Upon A Deadpool proves the foul-mouthed anti-hero can work in the confines of PG-13, but it only kind of works as a re-cut version of Deadpool 2.
