  • This film was exceptional. I couldn't get enough of it and to then find out it was based on a real person boggles belief.

This film captivated me from start to finish and I would highly recommend it to you.

  • Andrew Garfield is a star, man. One of the best actors around at the moment. Hacksaw Ridge is brutal and unflinching at times, but makes me tear up. I appreciate how opposed he was to violence. When he comes across the Japanese soldier and helps in out briefly is so emotionally powerful.

  • You know, I'm not a huge fan of either Andrew Garfiled OR war movies, but I did really love this one. The pacifism plotline is fascinating, and the portrayal of that ridge from a cinema-level is simply unforgettable.

  • Hacksaw Ridge is one of the best war movies I have ever seen. The fighting is brutal but it is also a very moving, inspiring and uplifting story, the more so because it is true. Andrew Garfield is wonderful as Desmond Doss. The acting from all the main stars is remarkable. I couldn't watch it at first because of the brutality but eventually I made myself watch it as my grandson said it was so good. I wish more young people would watch more of these kind of films so they can see what it was really like and what a terrible waste of human life is the end result

Synopsis

Hacksaw Ridge is a historical war film based on the true story of Desmond Doss, a soldier in Okinawa during the bloodiest battle of WWII, who saved 75 men without firing or carrying a gun. He was the only American soldier in WWII to fight on the front lines without a weapon, as he believed that while the war was justified, killing was nevertheless wrong due to his upbringing.

Hacksaw Ridge Review
7/10

Hacksaw Ridge is a grisly WWII movie that excels as an action/thriller, but has mixed success in realizing its loftier thematic ambitions.
