  • Never would have expected Guy Ritchie to make a couple of very good Sherlock Holmes films, but he surprised us all. Adding in Holmes' pugnacious background allows for more action scenes to blend seamlessly into the mystery, and everyone here is at their most charming. A pleasant watch on a rainy afternoon if you catch it on cable.

  • RDJ working at some of his best, in his resurgence in the Iron Man era. I think the stylization here is fantastic, and I really hope they do make Sherlock Holmes 3. In some ways, one of the movies that got me into movies, even though it is kind of goofy.

  • Guy Ritchie doubles down on the central friendship that has made so many Sherlock adaptations fun. It has nothing to do with the original books, but it's on the higher end of fun action movies with quippy leads.

Synopsis

Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes adapts the stories of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle with an all-star Hollywood cast. Set in 1890, Sherlock Holmes follows the eccentric but brilliant detective Sherlock (Robert Downey Jr.) and his partner Watson (Jude Law) as they solve various mysteries around Victorian London. Teaming up with former adversary Irene Adler (Rachel McAdams), the detectives find themselves pitted against the villainous Lord Henry Blackwood (Mark Strong) as he attempts to gain control of Britain.
