  • The beginning of this film felt slow to me, but once it picks up, it gets terrifying quickly. Bughuul is a horrifying villain and his design makes him even scarier. The movie is pretty heavy on jump scares, making it even more frightening.

  • When Ethan Hawke is involved in a movie, I just kind of expect to come out of it disturbed. And it's no new concept to use children as the source of fear in a horror movie, but man this really took it to a new level. Bughuul himself is terrifying, but I've never been so scared of children before. This movie just gets more and more horrifying until you reach the ending that will leave you feeling anything but ease.

Synopsis

Sinister is a supernatural horror movie that centers around a washed-up true-crime writer named Ellison Oswalt, who finds a box of Super 8 home movies that suggest the murder he is currently researching is the work of a serial killer whose macabre work dates back to the 1960s. As he begins to write a biography about the case, terrifying images start to seep into his consciousness, making him question reality as the horrors of old are made new again.

Derrickson's film succeeds in delivering an exceptionally engaging, and frightening, movie experience with quality characters, a smart story, and plenty of scares.
