  • Suicide Squad isn't just bad - which would be fine - it's so rushed and hacked together on a corporate level that it breaks rules you may never have seen broken on-screen before. Ideas are cued up then dropped, twists have no significance when revealed, and character arcs happen largely off-camera. Worth seeing as an example of what film-making would be like if no-one was allowed to take a second at any aspect of creating it.

  • UGH! They don't lie about Jared Leto's Joker. Cringy makeup, and truly a far too over-the-top performance. The intensity of Ledger with none of the depth, ends up being the goofiness of Nicholson with none of the levity. It's the worst of both worlds. Also too action-inundated with annoying use of soundtrack.

  • On the surface, this movie is fun, enjoyable even, you can stick it on, and it feels like a fun ride. But it is a very bare bones movie with little cohesion, as seen by the plot and long fabled Ayer cut that feels much more complete. What this movie did do well, save for one or two additions, is its cast. Margot Robbie is one of the best castings in comic book history, and this is a good first impression.

  • My hottest take as a DC fan is that I like the Suicide Squad movie. It is so messy and borderline incoherent at times, but I enjoy most of the characters. Except for the Joker. He is not good at all in this. Harley Quinn could hurt me and I would be happy.

  • Kinda like the plot, and Jared Leto was actually good here. I feel like the only negative reviews come from the fact that he didn't follow the Joker cliché.

Synopsis

The Suicide Squad team is made up of villains, captured and kept in a secret prison, and offered reduced sentences if they participate in dangerous missions. In the tradition of continuity within DCEU films, the event comes in the wake of Superman's death and the seclusion of Batman after the events that occurred in Batman V Superman. Agency head Amanda Waller, played by award-winning actress Viola Davis, is the one striking deals with the inmates of Belle Reve Prison. Heading “Task Force X” is Joel Kinnaman’s Rick Flag, alongside Will Smith’s Deadshot, Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney’s Captain Boomerang, Jay Hernandez’s El Diablo, Adewale Akinnuoye’s Killer Croc, and Adam Beach’s Slipknot. Karen Fukuhara’s Katana also s the mission to keep Rick safe from the villains. Jared Leto (Joker) and Ben Affleck (Batman) have smaller roles in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, as does Cara Delevingne’s Enchantress.

Suicide Squad Review
6/10

Suicide Squad is a lively comic book movie - albeit one that is undermined by plot holes and uneven execution of action, character, and comedy.
