The hallmark event of Taylor Swift's entire career thus far, The Eras Tour, has officially come to an end, which raises the question of what's next for the world's biggest current pop star. The Eras Tour first kicked off on March 17, 2023, in Glendale, Arizona, and ever since then, it has become nothing short of a cultural juggernaut. Swift would go on to expand her tour from the United States to Europe, Asia, Australia, and South America, before returning to North America for a few more shows in the United States and ultimately ending in Canada.

With the entire culture around The Eras Tour having such a massive influence, many are left to wonder what Swift will do when the tour is no longer happening. It's hard to imagine a world where this tour, which would boost the host city's economy a significant amount each weekend Swift's tour visited, comes to an end, though there are certainly new plans in motion. With Swift being a self-declared "Mastermind", it's certainly reasonable to assume that she has something on the cards - so what exactly will she be up to in the coming months?

Taylor Swift's Eras Tour Is Over

The Last Show Was A Tribute To The Fans

The Eras Tour played its last show in Vancouver, Canada on December 8, 2024. Compared to some other announcement- and guest-heavy shows on The Eras Tour, Swift played this show cool for the most part, allowing it to be a true love letter to the fans who have ed her crowd both physically and on various livestreams. As opposed to her other shows, where Swift was seen switching up her outfit choices for each era, Swift wore the same outfits during each era on all three nights in Vancouver - something she still did at her closing show.

Every Taylor Swift Album, Ranked From Worst To Best

Taylor Swift has released 11 albums (and re-recorded four) over the course of her 18-year career, some of which are better than others.

Perhaps most significant at this final concert was not only the fact that it was still being filmed by a camera crew, as were the previous two nights, but also the Surprise Songs that Swift chose to play. At the piano, Swift played a medley of three songs, two of which are songs that fans have held close over the years as testaments to their own relationship with the singer: "Long Live" from Speak Now and "New Year's Day" from Reputation. Swift then closed with "The Manuscript" from The Tortured Poets Department, the last song in her current discography.

Swift started The Eras Tour Surpise Songs set by playing "Tim McGraw" from her debut album on opening night, which means she began this tradition with her first-ever song and ended it with her most recent song.

Swift Still Has Taylor's Version Albums To Release

Reputation & Debut Have Yet To Be Announced

Of course, what Swift's dedicated fans will quickly notice and realize is that Swift did not take the chance to announce her final two Taylor's Version albums during the closing weekend of The Eras Tour, Taylor Swift (Taylor's Version) and Reputation (Taylor's Version). This means that, without The Eras Tour, Swift will have to complete an album rollout for these two editions in a way that's more similar to what she did with her first two, Fearless (Taylor's Version) and Red (Taylor's Version). It certainly won't be a problem for her, but it's also not what fans were expecting.

The timeline of Swift releasing these albums is still uncertain at this point. So far, the pattern seems to be that Swift releases two Taylor's Version albums and then releases a brand-new album, still doing so in a way that ensures her brand-new albums are 2 years apart. This began after evermore in 2020, when Swift went on to release Fearless (Taylor's Version) and Red (Taylor's Version) in the spring and fall seasons of 2021. Midnights then arrived in fall 2022, and Swift would go on to announce and release Speak Now (Taylor's Version) and 1989 (Taylor's Version) in 2023.

What Is Taylor Swift's Next Album & When Does It Release?

Taylor Swift's 11th studio album already has a scheduled release date, with the tracklist & editions also being confirmed before ending The Eras Tour.

This makes it seem rather likely that, after The Tortured Poets Department released earlier this year, Swift will announce and release her last two Taylor's Version albums in 2025, before releasing her 12th studio album in 2026. It's important to note, however, that this is simply speculation at this point, even if Swift's last two Taylor's Version albums are inevitable. The order in which they'll release is also unknown, and it's even possible she could release both at once.

Will There Be A Second Eras Tour Movie (Or A Documentary)?

Swift Was Filming Her Last Three Shows

The next biggest question fans are wondering about after The Eras Tour is what Swift will do with the footage she's captured during her last three Vancouver shows. It's reasonable to think that Swift may have wanted to capture the newer version of The Eras Tour setlist, following the addition of The Tortured Poets Department, to perhaps release another new movie for The Eras Tour. Most fans, however, think that it's more than just another concert movie, particularly due to some filming that occurred behind-the-scenes.

Bryan West, a designated Swift reporter for USA Today, revealed (via BBC) that "We've seen film crews at many of the gigs, so I'd not be shocked if she's been shooting a documentary this entire time." This footage could, of course, be for her own personal memories, but with professional filming taking place on stage during her last three shows, it's now more likely that Swift is compiling footage for a documentary. Given how massive this tour is, it seems even more likely that Swift will want to document her experience in this way, providing her side of the story.

What About Another Tour?

When Will Swift Perform Again?

Given how massive The Eras Tour was, it's hard to imagine Swift hopping back on tour so soon, but it's certainly not impossible. It's clear to see that Swift deeply enjoys performing and playing shows for her fans, and while she ought to take a lengthy break that she certainly deserves, she wouldn't be likely to miss the opportunity to embark on tour once her newest album comes out. This, however, probably won't be for a few more years, seeing as she still has to release her last two Taylor's Version albums before her newest album.

When Could Taylor Swift's Next NEW Album Release?

It Could Be Sooner Than You Might Think

As mentioned above, it's possible that, given Swift's recent pattern of album releases, she could release a brand-new album in 2026. Swift has been faithfully consistent in releasing a new album every 2 years ever since her debut in 2006, aside from the additional year she took between 1989 (2014) and Reputation (2017) after everything went down with Kanye West and Kim Kardashian in 2016. Something similar happened with the creation of the folklore and evermore sister albums that Swift recorded during the COVID-19 shutdowns in 2020, which released just one year after Lover (2019).

Every Taylor Swift Album In Release Order (And Which Are Taylor's Versions)

The Taylor Swift album release order was complicated by the onset of her Taylor's Version series, but it represents the artist reclaiming her legacy.

Now, Swift is back on her original track, having released Midnights in 2022 and The Tortured Poets Department in 2024. Swift is known to be a prolific writer, so it's not hard to imagine her having already started the creation of her next studio album, even while she was still on tour. It's thus reasonable to assume that Swift's next album, which fans refer to as TS12, will likely arrive in 2026.

Taylor Swift's Career Could Move Into Movies

She's Already Been In The Director's Chair

Of course, there's also the possibility that Swift will branch out beyond the music industry. Swift has already been dipping her toe into the movie industry for years, having taken up various roles in many different films, but she clearly has a ion for directing as well, evidenced by the various past music videos of her own that Swift has directed. In December 2022, it was announced that Searchlight Pictures had picked up one of Swift's own scripts for her to direct, a project that certainly still seems to be on the table.

Swift has never been the kind of person to limit herself, and so it makes sense that she may pursue movie-making alongside her ion for music in the future. Her songs prove that she's already an expert storyteller, and now it may be time for her to continue experimenting in a new medium. Whatever the case, fans of Taylor Swift certainly have a lot to look forward to, even after the conclusion of The Eras Tour.
