Telegram has released a new update for Android and iPhone s, bringing several features including Custom Notifications Sounds and Custom Mute Durations. This is the third update rolled out by Telegram in 2022. In March, the messaging app redesigned its system for sharing media files. The app also improved its management system which now lets s monitor all ongoing s and cancel or prioritize them.

Back in January, Telegram introduced message reactions. The feature allows s to quickly react to messages by double-tapping for a thumbs up reaction and tapping once (Android) or holding the message (iOS) for more reaction options like a smiley face, fire emoji, and more. When s react to a message, the reaction appears on the screen with unique animation. s can also change the default reaction in settings. While the feature can be used to express thoughts about a particular message in personal chats, s can use it to collect from a group of s by limiting the reaction options to upvote or downvote.

Another new feature that is a part of the Telegram update is Custom Mute Durations. As the name suggests, the feature will enable Telegram s to mute any chat for a specific duration, which could be one hour, eight hours, one day, one week, or even a month. s can select the duration from the Mute for option found in the chat's info page on iPhone, and in the Notifications menu on the info page on Android. A similar feature introduced in the update allows s to set custom durations for auto-deleting messages in a chat. Auto-delete can be enabled from the three-dot menu on a chat's info page. Additionally, Telegram will also begin showing the source of a forwarded message.

While these features are available for regular s, the new Telegram update also has something for developers. The instant messaging platform is providing developers with the tools "to create infinitely flexible interfaces with JavaScript." Telegram claims that developers will be able to replace websites with the help of bots on the messaging platform, deg automated solutions for completing specific tasks such as paying bills, playing a game, and more. Apart from this, Telegram has improved Message Translations to include more languages and updated the Picture-in-Picture Mode with a better player window.
