the most abnormal characters in the scene, despite them being based on stereotypes and parodies (of superheroes, supervillains, and on). One of the best parts of this show is, indeed, seeing them interact and connect in different, sometimes unusual ways.
Some of these relationships can be wholesome or occasionally heartbreaking. Sometimes they're genuine and healthy, other times toxic and manipulative, but one thing is for sure: they never get boring. It shouldn't be hard to distinguish the genuine couples from the unhealthy ones- you can read below to find out the best and worst couples of the series.
Worst: Homelander And Mrs. Stillwell
It's perhaps incorrect to define them as a "couple", but they certainly used to have a deep relationship that went beyond professional. As Homelander finds out at the end of the first season, she wouldn't have cared for him if he wasn't one of her best resources in business. She took advantage of his trauma, need for approval, and of a possible Oedipus complex, too. He even took orders from her in most of their time together, as Vought created him, tortured and abused him his whole life (which doesn't justify him, it just shows how toxic they were)!
Best: Hughie And Robin
The public hasn't seen much of Hughie and Robin, as she died in the first twenty minutes of the episode, but we know how Hughie feels about her and how happy they used to be together.
Hughie wasn't willing to sell himself to Vought to honor, and he proved how special she was to him continuously both in her life than in death. Truly one of the few genuine and healthy couples to be portrayed in the tv show.
Worst: A-Train And Popclaw
The saddest thing about A-Train and Popclaw isn't that they didn't truly love each other, but that they didn't value that enough (A-Train more than Popclaw). Money, reputation, fame, and their own selfish interests always came first - which is terrible in a relationship. Not to mention that, well, A-Train killed her. Despite his claims of being in love with her, he still wasn't willing to stand up to Homelander, Vought, and his addiction to the compound V to save her and the relationship. It is one of the most tragic couples in the show.
Best: Butcher and Rebecca
Billy Butcher and Rebecca used to be one of the most mysterious couples before season 2 when she was found to be alive and met him again in secret. They add up to the list of the truly-in-love couples in The Boys, as they're fascinating, both moving and heartwarming (the way Butcher fights for her and never stops looking for her even after 8 years). They were separated by external forces that couldn't be dealt with, but she was one of the few people who could make him resonate and connect with him.
Worst: Cherie And Frenchie
Initially, Cherie and Frenchie seemed very close and weirdly intimate, until she started acting overbearing and cold. It seems that they really care for each other, however, their relationship doesn't seem to be important to Frenchie as much as Kimiko, who seems to easily replace her towards the end of season 1 and season 2.
They're connected, but not in love; they don't seem to be capable to be a healthy relationship, and boing both addicted to drugs, all they did was to get the worst out of each other.
Best: Frenchie and Kimiko
Frenchie and Kimiko happened randomly, awkwardly, and slowly; they also are two of the few people who have a real connection, in the series. Their bigger obstacles and, at the same time, a shared trait is their inner demons (besides their battle against The Seven).
Frenchie always knew there was a good person in her and he earned her trust step by step and with patience. They share a difficult life, but also the values and the same needs.
Worst: Homelander And Stormfront
Stormfront and Homelander, initially, might look perfect for each other -they certainly deserve each other. They're two psychotic murderers, so you can't really expect them to be in such a healthy relationship. Homelander and Stormfront are both powerful "heroes", but Homelander would have the upper hand in a fight, which doesn't scare her away simply because she knows how to manipulate him. She doesn't really love him, she loves her ideals and reaching her goals, no matter what it takes. Homelander is too depended on her, he is, indeed, in a desperate need of approval and attention.
Best: Hughie and Annie
Hughie and Annie, or rather Starlight, are perfect for each other for multiple reasons: they share the same values, they met each other when they needed it the most, they are each other's light in the most difficult times. Although they didn't quite start the right way (considering that Hughie used to lie to her, initially), they grew closer, and as they worked together against a common enemy. They make another couple that really deserves a happy ending,
Worst: The Deep And Carol
The Deep and Carol are knowingly staged, or rather, in an arranged marriage by the Catholic Church, in an attempt to make people forget that Deep used to be a molester. They pretend pretty well in front of the camera, which is no surprise, and she wasn't even his first choice when asked which woman he wanted to marry in his path of redemption.
Best: Mother's Milk And Monique
Mother's Milk and Monique are possibly the most solid and wholesome couple of all, as they even build a family together. They obviously aren't perfect, but it's obvious that they both deeply love and care for each other - as Mother's Milk proves time after time when defending his family or fighting for them. They surely stand as the most normal, healthy, and genuine couple on the tv show.
