The Boys boasts an ensemble cast and has become a huge hit since debuting on Prime Video in 2019, and A-Train has proven to be one of its most layered and complex characters. His journey as a villain-turned-antihero, turned double agent has added an extra layer to his development and has provided plenty of drama and tension on the show, with much speculation about how his arc will conclude.

In an interview with Screen Rant's Tessa Smith at the Saturn Awards, Usher opens up on the potential direction A-Train's arc could take in The Boys season 5, and confirmed he would be very shocked if the tortured supe were to return to The Seven, after the direction he has taken in season 4. The 32-year-old also mentioned, however, that the idea of A-Train making a U-turn to re The Seven would not be an uninteresting move for the character. Check out his comments below:

I feel like they really steered him in the right direction towards the end of season 4, he's got his head on his shoulders. It would blow my mind to see him make another turn back to the dark side, but it also wouldn't be uninteresting. So, I'm open to any and all possibilities with that. I just hope that it's creative and it's fun.

What These Comments Mean For A-Train's Chances Of Reing The Seven

There Is A Chance, But It Would See A Drastic Change In Direction

A-Train's character arc has been one of the most layered and involved in the show, and his move from a core part of The Seven to reluctantly helping The Boys has been a gradual and slow process that has been well-developed over time. It would feel like a massive change of direction to bring him back to The Seven for The Boys season 5, and would also be a betrayal of how the character has evolved throughout the show's run.

A-Train's redemption arc has been a slow burn, and the character concluded season 4 in something of a limbo, with enemies on both sides, and Homelander aware he was a mole.

What's more, it is A-Train's actions that set the events of the show in motion, with his accidental killing of Hughie's girlfriend Robin in the pilot, leading Hughie to The Boys and take a stand against Vought and The Seven. This has resulted in friction between the pair, but a tenuous truce has now been formed, and, given the events of The Boys season 4 finale, with Butcher going rogue, and The Boys scattered, allies are more important than ever, and there's a good chance A-Train teams up with Annie to rescue the others.

Our Verdict On A-Train's Season 5 Character Arc

The Character Will Likely Play A Prominent Role In The Final Season

Jessie T Usher's blood soaked A-Train talks in The Boys season 1 episode 1

While it is unclear how any character will conclude the show, there is a good chance A-Train will play a prominent part in the final season, and the climactic conflict that is certain to dominate the story. A-Train's redemption arc has been a slow burn, and the character concluded season 4 in something of a limbo, with enemies on both sides, and Homelander aware he was a mole. I suspect he will be recruited by Annie to help reform The Boys, and take down Homelander (and perhaps Butcher too), but whether he will survive the season is anyone's guess.
