With the grounded, more realistic feel of the films, Nolan opted for a similar take on the film's fight sequences. This resulted in brutal, chaotic and exhilarating fights. Some made you want to stand up and cheer, while others made your heart sink. Here are the best fight scenes in The Dark Knight trilogy.

Prison Fight (Batman Begins)

Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne in Batman Begins looking offscreen

The very first fight sequence we see in the trilogy is a great indicator of how different Nolan's films would be from previous Batman films. We are introduced to a very different take of Bruce Wayne, a troubled and lost man inside a foreign prison.

But when some of his fellow prisoners pick a fight with Bruce, he shows he is not some rich kid who is going to stand down. The down-and-dirty nature of the fight is the furthest thing from the Joel Schumacher films. Some people weren't fans of the shaky-cam style but it did signal a new era of cinematic Batman.

Party Crashers (The Dark Knight)

Heath Ledger as Joker in Dark Knight

Seeing Heath Ledger's Joker force his way into a swanky party at Bruce Wayne's high-rise is a truly frightening moment. The villain is so unpredictable that anything could happen once he's on the scene. But he also didn't count on Batman crashing the party as well.

While it's fun to see Batman single-handedly take out all of Joker's goons, the best part comes when Bruce is out of costume. A goon tries to hold him up but Bruce effortlessly beats the man down and dismantles his gun without blinking.

Train Fight (Batman Begins)

Liam Neeson as Ra's al Ghul in Batman Begins

Though Ra's al Ghul is not one of the most well-known Batman villains, the character was a compelling and effective bad guy to kick off the trilogy. In a fun twist, the climax of Batman Begins reveals that Bruce's mentor, Henry Ducard (Liam Neeson) was the real Ra's the whole time and plans to destroy Gotham.

Batman and Ra's come face-to-face aboard a speeding train. The fight is very reminiscent of an early fight between the two men, but this time, Bruce is showing Ra's everything he learned from him. He has become the more skilled fighter and the protector of Gotham.

Ice Training (Batman Begins)

This sequence is the earlier fight between Bruce and Ra's as Bruce is trained to become a member of the League of Shadows. Though the stakes are not as high as their later fight, it is still a compelling scene.

Taking place on a beautiful frozen lake, the two men spar using swords as Ra's forces Bruce to confront his past. The scene is not only exciting with the fight becoming more intense, but it is a surprisingly emotional scene that helps shape Batman as a hero.

Batman Appears (Batman Begins)

Batman Begins

Batman Begins is a gradual telling of the iconic hero's origin story. Batman doesn't appear in costume until about halfway through the film. But when he does show up, it is appropriately epic.

As a group of gangsters prepares for a drug shipment at the dockyard, Batman arrives to stop them. The sequence is filled almost like a horror film with Batman lurking in the shadows, picking off the bad guys one by one. We see only glimpses of him as he pummels the criminals leading to his big reveal.

Capturing Scarecrow (The Dark Knight)

Scarecrow

Though Batman Begins is a great beginning to the franchise, The Dark Knight made it clear it was going to take things to another level in its earliest scenes. As Scarecrow (Cillian Murphy) meets with fellow criminals for a deal, a group of copycat Batmen arrive to stop them.

The amateurs prove to be out of their element until the real Batman shows up and shows them how it is done. This is a great introduction for the character in the sequel as he efficiently takes out the bad guys and saves the wannabe vigilantes like it was nothing.

The Battle For Gotham (The Dark Knight Rises)

DARK KNIGHT RISES

The Dark Knight Rises is the conclusion to the series and they certainly aimed for the trilogy to end on an epic note. This climactic sequence is one of the biggest fight scenes in a Batman film as Batman leads Gotham's police into battle against Bane and his army.

The giant rumble in the streets of Gotham is an insane moment and Nolan does a great job capturing the size of the event. It also features the fantastic rematch between Batman and Bane with Batman more prepared to take on his enemy this time around.

Rooftop Melee (The Dark Knight Rises)

Though he seems to still prefer working alone, Batman gets a bit of help in The Dark Knight Rises, especially from Catwoman (Anne Hathaway). Though she is certainly a character on the other side of the law, Batman and Catwoman form an uneasy alliance.

The two find themselves fight side-by-side on the rooftop as Bane's goons close in on them. Seeing these two iconic comic book characters sharing the screen again is cool enough, but to see them kicking butt together is especially awesome.

Hong Kong Sequence (The Dark Knight)

Batman in 'The Dark Knight'

With the much bigger scope of The Dark Knight, Nolan showed he was not content to keep all the action within Gotham city. After a key witness for in Gotham's underworld flees to China, Batman decides to go get him back in epic fashion.

Infiltrating a high-security building in the middle of Hong Kong, Batman rips through the building and proves that there are no lengths he will not go to bring a criminal to justice. And it also showed Nolan was willing to give us some pretty huge action sequences for these films.

Batman Vs Bane (The Dark Knight Rises)

Bane breaks Batmans back in The Dark Knight Rises

As soon as Bane was announced for The Dark Knight Rises, fans were eagerly anticipating Batman's showdown with the hulking villain. Though some might have been thrown off by Tom Hardy's unusual voice choices for the character, he did make for a deeply intimidating foe.

When Batman and Bane first come face-to-face, it becomes clear how outmatched the Caped Crusader is. The sequence is actually scary as Bane pulverizes Batman making the hero seem desperate and afraid for the first time. And, of course, it all ends with that sickening final blow.
