Bethesda unveiled the latest expansion for The Elder Scrolls: Legends during PAX East 2019. Dubbed Alliance War, the paid update brings a slew of new cards and other big shakeups to the free-to-play digital card game. It’s the fifth major expansion to hit The Elder Scrolls: Legends since the game launched in March 2017.

The announcement serves as another treat for Elder Scrolls fans celebrating Bethesda's E3 2019 briefing.

The Elder Scrolls: Legends - Alliance War is themed after the war of alliances raging on in Elder Scrolls Online. It promises to deliver the biggest changes to the meta in the game’s history. Players battle alongside one of five warring factions from the Elder Scrolls Online, including the Aldmeri Dominion, Ebonheart Pact, and Daggerfall Covenant. Additionally, two new factions the fray: the Empire of Cyrodiil, which consists of the final remnants of the fallen empire, and the Guildsworn, an alliance between the Mages and Fighters guilds. Each faction sports new three-attribute combinations. For example, the Guildsworn wields Strength, Intelligence, and Willpower.

Over 100 cards will be introduced, along with five new three-color house card combinations. New mechanics arrive in the form of Mobilize and Empower, which will help diversify the game's playstyle while offering its players new ways to attack the metagame. On top of that, fresh visual effects, music, and a new playmat round out improvements on the presentation end. The Elder Scrolls: Legends - Alliance War launches April 15 for PC, iOS, and Android. Players can pre-order the expansion now for $49.99. Doing so nets 50 Alliance War card packs, which includes one Legendary pack, an exclusive card back, and the Warmonger player title upon the expansion’s release.

Legends may not have the mainstream attention of other popular trading card games, but it's irable to see Bethesda consistently it. While other games like Magic Arena and Hearthstone continue to draw more players to the genre, quietly maintaining one of the better-made titles and supplementing it with additional content could mean an explosion of popularity later once fans new to online card games begin exploring their options.
