WARNING: This article contains SPOILERS for The Flash. The Flash puts a baby inside a microwave in what can only be described as one of DC’s strangest movie scenes of all time. The DCEU’s Barry Allen was designed to be the Justice League’s comic relief, with Barry being significantly younger than most of the other . This comedic approach to Barry was carried into The Flash movie, although present-day Barry Allen is far more serious than his 2013 counterpart. That said, The Flash was full of comic relief scenes, with the first being a rather odd moment.

From Wonder Woman showing up during the opening sequence to The Flash’s post-credits scene, DC’s multiverse film had many surprises. The Flash was the first theatrical DC movie to use the multiverse concept, which led to several cameos and Easter eggs. However, in of online discussion, those moments have been overshadowed by one of the weirdest superhero rescuing scenes ever put on film – The Flash’s “microwave baby” moment.

Why The Flash Microwaves A Baby

The Flash Super Speed Scene

The Flash opens with the Justice League – or at least Flash, Batman, and Wonder Woman – chasing a group of terrorists. In the middle of the destruction caused by the Justice League’s clash with the villains, a hospital building collapses, leaving dozens of babies that were in the top floor close to death. Most of the building was already empty, yet the Flash only had a few seconds to come up with a way to save the babies. Barry Allen rescuing the babies before they would reach the floor was arguably DC’s “Quicksilver” moment, with the film entering “Flash speed” while the hero saved one baby at a time.

The Flash had to use whatever was close to him to prevent the babies from getting hurt during the fall, including putting one of them inside a microwave. The easiest, safest way for the Flash to get the baby on the ground was to put them inside a microwave, and then use his speed to move it. Later in the movie, the Flash explains to young Barry Allen that he cannot move people at hyper speed without hurting them. However, the Flash can move other objects easily. Therefore, the Flash puts a baby inside a microwave to move it in hyper speed safely, within the film’s rules.

The Flash microwaving a CG baby has gone viral, with people commenting on the absurdity of it all while also discussing The Flash’s VFX problems, comedy, and tone.

More than five years had ed since Barry appeared in Justice League, meaning that audiences did not necessarily know what to expect from this iteration of the Flash. The Flash’s “baby shower rescue” scene set the tone for the rest of the movie, which used Barry’s powers to create comic moments quite a lot. However, even with context, Barry putting a baby inside a microwave is a strange moment nonetheless. The number of confused reactions to The Flash’s baby rescue scene proves it.

Discussions on The Flash’s baby shower scene have been floating around social media, with shocked reactions both from those who have seen the film and those who just cannot believe it actually happened. The Flash’s tone and humor were a lot different from previous DCEU movies, even compared to Barry’s role in Justice League. The microwave baby scene becomes even stranger considering that it is soon followed by serious moments involving Barry Allen, Henry Allen, and Bruce Wayne.

How The Flash's Microwave Baby Scene Is Defining The Movie

’s Easter eggs, multiverse cameos, and villain twist are not what is defining the movie right now on social media. Instead, the most absurd The Flash scene, the Flash putting a baby on a microwave, is what is dominating the conversation surrounding the DC movie. The Flash’s early reactions pointed at it being one of DC’s best superhero films of all time, which only increased the expectations for it. As such, anything in The Flash that does not land too well becomes even more noticeable. This includes The Flash’s visual effects, which looked flawed during the microwave scene.

While The Flash’s “Chronobowl” and speed force scenes are supposed to look uncanny due to the mysteries of the multiverse, Barry using his powers to save people is not. Likewise, The Flash’s comedy does not always work. Even George Clooney’s Batman scene in The Flash’s ending has been divisive. Still, from its concept to the execution, The Flash’s baby rescue scene is by far the film’s weirdest creative decision. While it can be difficult to anticipate how audiences will receive a scene, the Flash putting a CG baby inside a microwave five minutes into DC’s multiverse epic was bound to become somewhat of a meme.
