The Gilded Age season 3 is on the way, and the continuing popularity of the historical drama makes it a surefire hit. Debuting on its original network of NBC in 2022, The Gilded Age is written and created by Julian Fellowes, known for the hit series Downton Abbey. With a cast that includes multiple theater veterans and classically trained actors, The Gilded Age brings the nuance of Fellowes’s other shows to America’s industrial boom in the late 1800s — specifically to the New York industrialists and socialites that thrived (and fell) during this unique point in history.

The series has been a critical darling throughout its first two seasons, and The Gilded Age season 2 actually sured its predecessor with a shows like Bridgerton, The Gilded Age has a chance to become the next must-see drama that draws its inspiration from the annals of history. Season 3 gives HBO a chance to solidify the series as the next great period drama.

The fallout between Gladys and Bertha is also likely to see the Russell clan fractured in The Gilded Age season 3

In of shaking things up, the finale of The Gilded Age season 2 not only turned everything on its ear, but gave the writers a lot to work with for season 3. Perhaps the biggest change was the revelation that Ada has inherited a large sum of money that will not only save the Brook family but also give her power. The fallout between Gladys and Bertha is also likely to see the Russell clan fractured in The Gilded Age season 3, which could set the stage for even more fireworks in the future.

HBO executive sca Orsi offered some insights into what's to come in The Gilded Age season 3, and based on her comments, divorce will be a big theme. According to Orsi, the season not only examines the introduction of divorce into society, but how the ending of relationships (legally speaking) has repercussions on how women are viewed in their communities.

Read Orsi's comments here:

I think, broadly, it’s an interesting way in which we’ve explored that era of how divorce came to the forefront in United States relationships. I think that there’s a conversation to be had about arranged marriages, and if it doesn’t necessarily work, what divorce looks like in that time, and what that bodes for society. And then whether you’re accepted in society or not, based on a divorce.
