Unlike most comedic shows, The Good Place doesn't rely upon pure ridiculousness or cheap laughs. Instead, the show is actually an incredibly intelligent one that features a strong focus on ethics and different theories surrounding that.

There is actually a lot to be learned from the show if people are able to sit and really take in the information. Within this article, we will rank the main characters in of their intelligence.

Jason Mendoza

Ah, the loveable Jason Mendoza. He is arguably the greatest character on the show, but sadly he is far from the most intelligent. When it comes to brains, he is sorely lacking in that department and is easily the shows least intelligent main character.

Jason does have one or two moments where he comes out with exactly the right answer, but that is normally accidental and not something he does knowingly. However, even though he is totally ridiculous with the stories he tells and things he gets up to, that is what makes him so likable.

Tahanhi Al-Jamill

Tahani Al-Jamill may only have ranked one place higher on this list, but the difference between her and Jason is huge. Tahani is the perfect middle ground between Jason and the rest of the group as she has moments where she shows amazing intelligence, yet times when she is the total opposite.

Much like Jason and Eleanor, Tahani doesn't have book smarts where she can sit and teach ethics. Although, by the end of her lessons with Chidi she certainly improves in that department. Instead, her intelligence comes from knowing how to deal with social settings, especially when it comes to hosting lavish events and parties.

Eleanor Shellstrop

Out of all the characters on The Good Place, Eleanor is probably the most underrated when it comes to her intelligence. She might not be a book worm or someone with supreme intelligence from school, but Eleanor is smart in different ways.

Eleanor has amazing life skills and is great in social situations. Despite not fully believing in herself, she constantly manages to come up with solutions that are needed for the group to be a success which proves she is more intelligent than she actually thinks.

Shawn

While we see various demon architects throughout the show, Shawn is arguably the most powerful of the lot. He runs The Bad Place and certainly has plenty of intelligence, especially in the department of creating torture devices, which he does for fun.

However, his downfall comes in the sense that he misjudges all humans which means he isn't able to make the smartest decisions all of the time. Often, he makes the wrong call simply because he thinks that humans are worthless, which in the end is something that someone smarter wouldn't make the mistake of doing.

Michael

Ted Danson as Michael in The Good Place

Whether he is acting like a demon in The Bad Place or ending up as someone who learns that humans are actually able to change and become good over time, Michael is very smart. After all, the architect is the man responsible for the creation of it all

While he doesn't know tons about humans themselves, it is something that he learns as the show develops, picking up various different things along the way. He learns about emotions and proves to be a very teachable person, which is a sign of intelligence in its own right.

Simone Garnett

Simone is someone who appears in the show frequently and is actually one of Chidi's love interests on the show as his soul mate. The reason for their pairing is all down to their intelligence, with both of them being incredibly smart individuals.

Of course, she has her flaws, with Simone's main weakness being the fact that she is very quick to judge people and isn't great at understanding people can improve. However, she is supremely intelligent, even after death, where she constantly questions things about The Good Place, picking up signs that many other characters totally miss.

Chidi Anagonye

The entire basis of the show is based around Chidi's intelligence, after all, it is him who teaches everyone about ethics and helps everyone become a better person overall. He has amazing intelligence which is his main characteristic throughout his time on the show.

His knowledge of all things ethical is absolutely incredible, and without that, the show wouldn't have the smart edge that it has over other shows. While he does panic a lot in general life situations, often becoming very anxious, that doesn't take away from his brains.

Good/Bad Janet

While Good/Bad Janet are two very different characters in of their behavior and personalities when it comes to their intelligence they are exactly the same. They aren't humans and they aren't robots, but Janet knows everything about the world.

She's able to recall things at the drop of the hat and can pull anything out of nowhere, which makes her even more impressive as well. She's incredibly impressive and while Good Janet has slightly more human characteristics due to the time she spends with the group, they are as one, incredibly impressive.

Judge Gen

The Good Place Judge Jen Maya Rudolph

While Janet knows absolutely everything when she is asked a question and has tons of power within the world, the fact of the matter is that Judge Gen has the edge on her. She is the smartest character within The Good Place as she is the person who has all of the power.

It is the Judge who creates the world, decides upon the score point system and can make major changes whenever she wants. While she has plenty of sass to go alongside with that intelligence, she is the most powerful character in the entire series and one of the funniest as well.
