During The Rings of Power's SDCC , for which Screen Rant is in attendance, a new trailer for season 2 debuted, teasing the fantasy action to come in the show's sophomore outing. Check it out below:

The trailer spotlights some major action sequences that will be featured in season 2, but also promises a widening of the world of Middle-earth. Ents and a Balrog both appear, and The Stranger (Daniel Weyman) travels to a new dessert location, meeting with a familiar figure on his journey. Read the official synopsis for The Rings of Power season 2 below:

In Season Two of The Rings of Power, Sauron has returned. Cast out by Galadriel, without an army or ally, the rising Dark Lord must now rely on his own cunning to rebuild his strength and oversee the creation of the Rings of Power, which will allow him to bind all the peoples of Middle-earth to his sinister will.

Building on Season One’s epic scope and ambition, the new season plunges even its most beloved and vulnerable characters into a rising tide of darkness, challenging each to find their place in a world that is increasingly on the brink of calamity. As friendships are strained and kingdoms begin to fracture, the forces of good—Elves and dwarves, orcs and men, wizards and Harfoots—will struggle ever more valiantly to hold on to what matters to them most of all: each other.

What The Rings Of Power Season 2 Trailer Reveals About The Show's Return

The World Of Middle-earth Expands

A crucial part of The Rings of Power's season 2 trailer is the forging of the titular Rings and their effects. Galadriel is shown with Nenya, her Ring, with two others going to Círdan (Ben Daniels) and Gil-galad (Benjamin Walker). Elrond suspects the darkness that these three Rings of Power will bring, accusing Galadriel, Círdan, and Gil-Galad of being Sauron's collaborators. The forging of the Rings, after all, are all part of Sauron's plan to sow division and exert dominance over all of Middle-earth.

The Rings Of Power Season 1 Ending Explained (In Detail)

Rings of Power season 1's ending gave a lot of answers, from who Sauron was to who fell from the sky and the unveiling of the titular jewelry.

Perhaps the biggest changes to come in The Rings of Power season 2 will be seen in The Stranger's storyline. The Stranger is shown in the desserts of Rhûn, a location that has never before been brought to life on either the big or small screen. His travels will seemingly include Nori Brandyfoot (Markella Kavenagh), but he'll also be crossing paths with Tom Bombadil (Rory Kinnear). Bombadil was a memorable character featured in Tolkien's The Fellowship of the Ring, but he was ultimatley cut from Peter Jackson's film adaptation.

Other notable teases in the trailer include growing friction between King Durin III (Peter Mullan) and Prince Durin IV (Owain Arthur), an Ent, a Barrow-wight, a Hill-troll, and even a young Shelob. The trailer also provides the best look yet at a major battle sequence, which the showrunners have previously teased will span multiple episodes and result in some key character deaths. Many questions remain about The Rings of Power season 2, but the latest trailer promises a sophomore outing filled with exciting events and characters.
