The Vampire Diaries has its share of horror elements, but its characters never faced the prospect of a masked killer picking them off one by one. Of course, they came up against plenty of villains over the show's eight seasons, but never one whose only goal was to kill.

If the characters from The Vampire Diaries were put into a slasher movie, most wouldn't last long, taken out in a series of jump scares and chase scenes. Some would put up more of a fight than others, but eventually, all would die until they left only one final girl left standing.

Matt Donovan

Despite miraculously surviving the events of The Vampire Diaries, Matt would likely be the first kill in a slasher film. He isn't close enough to anybody to warrant a later stage emotional kill, but his death would be enough to draw the whole group together.

Matt might have developed new survival skills over the course of the show, but he's still the most vulnerable of all of the characters with no supernatural powers to aid him.

Tyler Lockwood

Tyler Lockwood in the woods on The Vampire Diaries

Tyler Lockwood has an incredibly stubborn, one-track mind, and he had a bad habit of focusing that stubbornness against enemies like Klaus who are much stronger than him.

If he were in a horror film, he would probably be so upset by Matt's death that he would decide to take on the killer himself. While he might get in a few good blows, that would not go well for him, and his death would be assured by the end of act one.

Jeremy Gilbert

Jeremy Gilbert wearing a white t-shirt in The Vampire Diaries

Jeremy had a bad habit of looking for trouble in The Vampire Diaries, and if he were in a slasher, he'd find it. He often only survived in the show because others were watching his back, which can't be counted on in a horror movie where everyone has to look out for themselves.

Jeremy seems like the kind of character to go off alone to look for something and never come back, leaving his body for the others to find at a later point in the movie.

Alaric Saltzman

Alaric might be shown to have a lot of helpful survival skills in The Vampire Diaries, but he also has a lot of vices that tend to mean certain death in a horror movie, and, for this reason, he wouldn't make it to the end.

It seems likely that Alaric would get drunk while on guard and manage to stumble into the killer along the way. After all, in a slasher, drinking alcohol, like engaging in sex, often means certain death.

Stefan Salvatore

Stefan sipping tea on The Vampire Diaries

Stefan Salvatore has a dark side, but he morally refuses to indulge in it most of the time. If he comes face to face with the killer, he probably wouldn't be ruthless enough to win the fight.

Ripper Stefan would be a different matter, but taking in to consideration only the "normal" versions of The Vampire Diaries' beloved characters, Stefan wouldn't fare as well in a horror movie as his more ruthless brother or the show's more powerful characters.

Bonnie Bennett

It may be controversial to rank the most powerful The Vampire Diaries character so low, but fans can't argue that Bonnie died on the show a lot. Bonnie's self-sacrificial nature would probably be her downfall, staying behind to take on the killer herself while the others got away.

Unfortunately for her, resurrection only works for the killers in most horror movies, meaning Bonnie couldn't just come back as she did so often on the show.

Elena Gilbert

Elena asks Damon where he was in The Vampire Diaries

Elena would probably be a shock value kill, made to seem like the final girl until her brutal surprise death scene. Just like in The Vampire DiariesElena would survive so long because others were protecting her, but after the deaths of Bonnie and Stefan, she would lose a lot of the protection that she had.

Elena would probably go to the bathroom or to bed alone, thinking that it was a safe place to be, and find a killer lying in wait. While she'd probably get a good chase scene, once the killer got their hooks into her, they would likely make her one of the goriest deaths of the film.

Damon Salvatore

There's usually one death scene per film that audiences love because the victim puts up such a good fight. In all likelihood, this scene would be Damon's, because he has the intelligence and ruthlessness to track down the killer and nearly succeed, foiled at the last minute by a stroke of bad luck or a weapon that the audience didn't know the killer had.

Damon's death would probably be the last one before the final confrontation between the killer and the final girl and would be one of the most memorable from the film.

Katherine Pierce

Katherine Pierce is a survivor, but she is also a villain, so she would be the most likely candidate for the role of the killer in a slasher version of The Vampire Diaries.

Although Katherine is a Vampire Diaries character with strong fighting ability, she would ultimately have to be defeated at the end of the movie, although she might find a way around the whole 'death' thing in time for a last-minute jump scare and an appearance in the sequel.

Caroline Forbes

Caroline looks off in the distance in The vampire diaries

Caroline has one of the best character arcs in The Vampire Diaries, and embodies the hopeful but resilient spirit that final girls are known for. She would grieve the losses of her friends, but she would still be able to go on, facing off against the killer and winning.

Some of the best moments in The Vampire Diaries were when Caroline went up against those who had hurt her or the people she cared about, and she would definitely put up a strong fight in a slasher film as well.
