I came across a discussion online recently that makes a lot of sense, and I'm a bit disappointed in myself for not realizing it sooner. There is a trend in more recent, popular TV shows that involves a heavy focus on characters who are rich, famous, powerful, or all three. For example, in TV shows such as The White Lotus, Succession, Apple TV+'s new release, Your Friends & Neighbors, basically all the characters fit in these categories. I know that there are plenty of other shows that focus on the working class, like Squid Game, but I didn't realize that there is currently a bit of a divide.
