A recent study by MIDiA has shown that over 50% of gamers actually prefer playing single-player games, which is an interesting contrast to the constant push of Live Service games in the industry today. Though there will always be hit multiplayer games like Overwatch or Helldivers 2, single-player, narrative games still hold a dominant sway over player preference. Personally, I much prefer single-player games, mostly just due to respect for my own time. I no longer have the time I did in school or college to sit and game for hours on end, and when I do, I want to be able to accomplish things at my own pace. Even simple co-op games like Borderlands can be a bit of a strain. Sometimes I don't want to have to adapt to someone else's pacing when it comes to exploring or questing. While there are, of course, occasional times I up with friends to play a quick round or two of Overwatch together, those times are much fewer than calm, quiet, solo gameplay sessions. It doesn't surprise me at all that others tend to feel the same way.
