Many people are worried about the new Minecraft movie following the tepid reception of the trailer, and the recent Borderlands crash forecasts poor outcomes for similar video game movie adaptations. However, not all box office flops really deserve the amount of hate they get. I personally loved Pixar's Onward, for example, even though it lost millions of dollars in revenue. The story was good, but I mostly loved it because of how normal and realistic the relationships of the characters were. The two brothers squabbling but loving one another, the mom's coolness, and the normalcy of a "Mom's Boyfriend" character all made this a highly relatable film. Without spoiling anything, the ending made me cry harder than I ever expected due to a clever twist. I don't think it deserves to be considered a "flop," though I know it technically counts as one.
