By the twelfth and final episode of Tires season 2, Phil is forced to make some financial cutbacks to keep Valley Forge afloat, which places Dave's general manager job on the chopping block. Additionally, a deflated Cal thinks about quitting after former NASCAR celebrity Ron (played by comedian Ron White) crashed his beloved vintage MGB convertible. Shane tries to patch things up with his sort-of girlfriend, Kelly, after his insecure suspicion that she had a crush on her catering coworker, Ollie, comes to life by his own volition. In the end, Pete gets fired from True Thread for taking bribes, while Valley Forge lives to fight another day.

How Shane's "Fleet s" Plan Can Keep Valley Forge In Business

Shane Found A Clever Way To Guarantee Future Business & Sales

The team of Valley Forge Auto discuss strategy in a meeting as seen through the shop window in Tires

Things get real for Valley Forge's financial situation at the end of Tires season 2. Shane, of all people, who has consistently shown no ambition to move up the ranks from being a mechanic, figures out a way to guarantee business from local vendors and companies that he and Tommy call "fleet s." In exchange for exclusively bringing their work vehicles to have serviced at Valley Forge, Shane will give various companies, such as Kelly's catering business, a guaranteed 10% discount. Shane is able to secure a handful of these agreements by the end of the episode, with plans to expand further in a potential third season.

Kilah Fox co-stars in Shane Gillis' Tires as Kilah, an employee at the auto shop, but you may know her from her earlier collaborations with Gillis.

These "fleet s" give Valley Forge a silver lining when they most needed it, as Phil was likely preparing for the auto repair shop to tank so that he could sell it like Shane had initially suspected. Shane's quick thinking and swift action will buy Valley Forge some time to generate more consistent business agreements after the True Thread deal backfired. Many of the plot scenarios in both Tires seasons 1 and 2 are driven by figuring out how to keep Valley Forge in business, so while Shane's "fleet s" strategy may work for a time, there's no indication that it will be the long-term solution that the branch truly needs.

Why Phil Changed His Mind About Firing Dave

Phil Took Will's Advice & Chose To Keep The Team Together

Thomas Haden Church as Phil in Tires season 2

Part of Phil's strategy to cut costs and keep Valley Forge afloat was to fire Dave, who became increasingly disliked and overlooked at the company throughout Tires season 2 after his affair with a receptionist, Lisa, was exposed. Phil didn't care much for Dave anyway, calling him Dale when he first met him and becoming quickly annoyed by Dave's obvious attempts to suck up to him.

Ultimately, Phil decided not to fire Dave even though he arrived at his motorhome, parked in the back of the Valley Forge Belmont branch, with his financial advisor to cut Dave loose. Phil took Will's advice and decided to face the fate of the company head-on rather than let the recently divorced Dave go.

Did Kelly Cheat On Shane With Ollie?

Shane Inadvertently Manifested His Own Insecurity

Veronika Slowikowska as Kelly in Tires season 2

In a hilarious and bizarre turn of events, Shane and Kelly broke up, if you could even say they were together, after Cal snooped into her relationship with her catering coworker, Ollie. Shane, along with most of the Valley Forge crew, suspected that Ollie was into Kelly based on the way they interacted, building an insecurity that inadvertently manifested itself into a relationship between Kelly and Ollie.

Shane definitely played himself with Kelly, and she may be out of the picture in a potential season 3.

Even though Shane was making yet another effort to win Kelly back, it was pretty clear that they were no longer dating after Cal's investigation nearly ruined her friendship with Ollie. Shane definitely played himself with Kelly, and she may be out of the picture in a potential season 3.

Why Shane Got Cal A Vintage MGB Convertible

Shane Felt Partially Responsible For Ron Totaling Cal's Other One

Chris O'Connor as Cal in Tires season 2

Cal was crushed after Ron tried taking his vintage MGB convertible for a joyride, only to crash it and total it before leaving the parking lot. Shane felt partially responsible for Ron's carelessness, which led to destruction, so as a way to apologize, he got Cal a new-to-him, fully operational, red vintage MGB. The car became part of his negotiation with Tommy during their conversation about "fleet s," which is how the financially challenged Shane was able to acquire it. This gift may have an effect on Cal's decision to stay at Valley Forge, since he was on the fence about quitting in the season 2 finale.

Who Got Pete Seidel Fired From True Thread

Will Told The Local Reporter That Pete Was Taking Bribes

Pete and Ryan in Tires season 2

The local news reporter from Tires season 1 returns in the penultimate episode of season 2, asking Will about running radio ads promising customers discounts that Valley Forge didn't offer. The reporter seemed to be writing another piece that would shine a negative light on Valley Forge. Once Will revealed the truth about why True Thread broke their agreement, making it impossible for Valley Forge to sell tires at cost, the reporter took an interest in Pete Seidel, the True Thread employee who illegally took bribes in exchange for business. Will tells everything to the reporter, who writes a piece on Pete and True Thread that leads to his termination.

Valley Forge Bought Some Time & Shane Found His Ambition

The end of Tires season 2 leaves hope for Valley Forge to stay in business with Will as branch manager, Phil as the owner, and Shane as a mechanic/budding assistant manager. Much like other workplace comedies, the location of the show is an integral and irreplaceable part of its story. This suggests that even though various problems arise that threaten Valley Forge's future, the series will likely always take place there, meaning that Will and Shane will always find a way to make it work.

Now that Pete's gone from True Thread, Ryan and Will could make up, work out another mutually beneficial deal, and maybe even become friends again.

As for Cal, he seems like he may come around after Shane gifted him the MGB. A budding romance with Kilah may also be in the works. Phil should return as a series regular as well, especially since he has much more of an immediate role at Valley Forge. Now that Pete's gone from True Thread, Ryan and Will could make up, work out another mutually beneficial deal, and maybe even become friends again. Shane may finally be showing some ambition after all at Valley Forge, which could inspire him to move up in a potential Tires season 3, especially now that Kelly looks to be permanently done with Shane.
