Warning: SPOILERS for Titans season 4.Titans season 4, episode 4 "Super Super Mart" features a major change for Superboy, one that will undoubtedly play into the Church of Blood's plans. While fighting a reanimated zombie Deathstroke, Superboy is somehow stabbed and seriously injured, something the other Titans didn't think was possible. Though he survives the ordeal, the episode ends with Superboy vomiting up a blood snake, which he chooses to hide from everyone else. This calls into question how these events could happen to Superboy, and what it will mean for the rest of Titans season 4.
Superboy's experience in Titans season 4, episode 4 means that he is now a part of Mother Mayhem's plan. Seeing Conner yak up a blood snake at the end is eerily reminiscent of Lex Luthor's death in Titans season 4, episode 1 "Lex Luthor". This would explain Superboy's terror, not just at the blood snake, but also the fear that he will end up sharing his father's fate. The fact that Superboy keeps all of this a secret from the Titans could be a big problem in the next few episodes.
What Happens To Superboy In Titans Season 4, Episode 4
While questioning Superboy about his connection with Superman, Jinx informs Conner that he shares the Man of Steel's "magic phobia." Apparently, Kryptonite isn't Superman's only weakness, with Jinx confirming that he "...has a brown thumb when it comes to magic." Superboy refuses to believe her until he learns the hard way in his fight with zombie Deathstroke, and with the blood snake he chucks up after. These events force Superboy to face up to his own mortality, and to the fact that Superman isn't free of doubts and fears after all.
Superboy now seems to have been infected by Mother Mayhem's blade when he was stabbed by Deathstroke. She also said "come to me Superboy," suggesting that this was part of her plan, and Conner yaks up the blood snake not long after. This opens up several possibilities for what Mother Mayhem has planned for Superboy, specifically regarding Sebastian.
What Superboy's Illness Means For Sebastian
There's no doubt that Mother Mayhem plans to use Superboy in order to get to Sebastian. Titans season 4, episode 4 revealed that Sebastian is not only the key to Mother Mayhem's plan, but he's also her son. She will do anything to get to Sebastian and see the Church of Blood's plan fulfilled, and Superboy has given her the means to do so. With Sebastian locked up tight, Mother Mayhem could infiltrate STAR Labs through the blood snake, or by controlling Superboy himself.
The latter option also hints at what could happen in the rest of season 4. The Church of Blood only has a limited amount of time before the red moon wanes, so if they don't get to Sebastian, they still have an ace in the hole with Superboy. Mother Mayhem could use him for another plan to get Sebastian, forcing him to fight the Titans in the process. However, if Mother Mayhem does succeed in retrieving Sebastian, Superboy will still be under her influence, which can only be trouble for the team in the rest of Titans season 4.
