Donatello’s staff may seem like the least deadly weapon of the four, but he proves that it’s just as formidable as any other weapon.
In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Armageddon Game #7 by Tom Waltz, Vincenzo Federici, Heather Breckel, and Shawn Lee, the evil Utrom Krang seeks to decimate Earth as a part of the Rat King’s plan to finally win the Armageddon Game. Caught in a millennia-long game run by a pantheon of animal-like gods, the turtles attempt to end the violent contest by battling pawns of the Rat King, the deadliest player in the Armageddon Game. Nearly every character and faction in IDW’s TMNT universe has gotten involved, from the citizens of Mutant Town to the intergalactic Triceratons.
Krang is gunned down and Donatello finally destroys the rogue robot by plunging his staff through its metal chest. If he can impale a metal being with his bo staff, chances are that he could do the same to any person if he ever chose to.
Donatello Can Be Deadly (When He Needs to Be)
Leonardo, Raphael, and Jennika regularly wield bladed weapons, and Michelangelo uses nunchucks. While the latter is more of a blunt weapon, nunchucks are generally seen as more deadly and versatile than Donatello’s wooden bo staff. Leonardo also killed Shredder with his katanas more than a few times throughout Ninja Turtle history. Every member uses their weapons to destroy their foes, but Donatello also contributes to their battles with his smarts. From constructing multi-functional vehicles to super powered super-suits and weapons, Donatello doesn’t set himself apart with a traditional approach to martial arts.
Upon first glance, one may assume that Donatello’s weapon pales in comparison to his brothers’. One move from Leo, Jennika, or Raph’s bladed weapons could easily mean death for their opponents. Even the chains and handles of Michelangelo’s nunchucks offer a variety of painful attacks against his enemies. This may be why Donatello often relies on his many inventions and high-tech machines. But he just as often puts his ninja skills to use, and this fight against Krang proves he can be deadly when the situation calls for it.
Donatello may not be as proficient in ninjutsu as Leonardo, but his recent mystical power-up has made him the best he’s ever been. Plus, Donatello’s recent victory over Metalhead with a mere staff proves that even without his signature gadgets and inventions, he’s just as deadly as any of his fellow Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
