Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. Cruise’s fellow action movie headliner Reeves, meanwhile, is taking a break from his own hit franchise John Wick, whose last installment seemed to finally kill the series' previously invincible assassin.
Cruise and Reeves are indeed connected by more than just their action hero status, as the former detailed at a recent red carpet appearance ahead of the New York premiere of Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, taking a moment to praise Reeves, while revealing that he always calls the John Wick star to congratulate him on his successes (via Extra):
I grew up with Keanu. You see Speed, you see The Matrix, and also what they did with the [John] Wick franchise, and looking at that you're saying, look at how they captured the tone from that and that ability and charisma. …I know what it takes to do that stuff so I always call him. I'm like "Hats off man, hats off,” and I dig those movies, I really love it.
What This Means For Cruise And Reeves
They Appear To Have A Little Action Star Bromance
Cruise’s Mission: Impossible franchise has increasingly been dominated by the star’s stunt work, a crazy new example of which can be witnessed in The Final Reckoning (it’s clear what to expect when a biplane pops up in a Mission: Impossible movie). Picking up on Cruise’s example, Reeves has done his own difficult and sometimes dangerous stunts in the John Wick films, firmly establishing himself as the assassin movie answer to Cruise’s iconic spy movie character Ethan Hunt.
Michael Nyqvist is the only actor to play a villain in both the Mission: Impossible and John Wick series
There are currently no known plans for Cruise and Reeves to team up on-screen, but Cruise may be set to star alongside one of Reeves’ John Wick franchise cohorts, as reports are swirling that Ana de Armas will Cruise in his undersea thriller movie Deeper. Cruise may be impressed by Reeves’ work as Wick, but it seems he is equally taken with de Armas, whose spinoff movie Ballerina releases on June 6.
Cruise unsurprisingly has already seen Ballerina, and has nothing but nice things to say about the spinoff movie and its female star, with whom he may soon be sharing the screen (reports say they’ve already begun doing diving practice). Cruise said at the NYC Mission: Impossible 8 premiere, "I saw the movie [Ballerina], it just kicks a** … it's right in that tone, it’s right in that Wick world, you're gonna love it."
Our Take On Cruise Loving John Wick And Reeves
Game Recognizes Game
Cruise’s love for the John Wick movies may have tangibly shown up in Mission: Impossible – Fallout, whose famed bathroom fight feels like it was taken from one of Reeves’ films. Aesthetically, Mission: Impossible seems to have borrowed more from Wick than vice versa. This should come as no surprise, as Reeves’ assassin movie series is arguably the most influential current action franchise.

Every Tom Cruise Movie In Development After Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning
While Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning may be the end of an era for him, Tom Cruise thankfully has many movies in development.
There’s no doubt Wick director Chad Stahelski is one of moviedom’s most respected stunt mavens (he was a stunt coordinator before moving on to directing). The stunt-crazy Cruise loving Stahelski’s work with Reeves and de Armas is just game recognizing game.
