Publisher Activision has officially rolled out the upgrades for THPS 1 + 2 will add a slew of graphical and performance enhancements to the celebrated remake. Namely, players can anticipate enhanced skater textures, native 4K resolution at 60 frames per second, and a performance mode that runs 120fps at a resolution of 1080p.

In confirming the upgrade's release today, Activision made note of other graphical improvements, which include features like enhanced reflections and lens flares, sharper dynamic shadows, spatial audio, as well as high-fidelity atmospherics. The upgrade additionally offers access to Ripper, the secret skater aka "the infamous Powell-Peralta mascot," retro skins for Tony Hawk, Steve Caballero, and Rodney Mullen, and retro content for the Create-A-Skater mode. Fans who purchased the game's Digital Deluxe Edition last year can the upgrade free of charge. Digital owners of the standard version will need to pay $10 for all of THPS 1 + 2's shiny new bells and whistles.

That most players will have to pony up another $10 for the upgrade remains a point of contention amongst fans. Thus far, the vast majority of upgrades from other publishers have been delivered at no extra cost with rare exception. Still, the newly implemented frame rate boosts alone make it seem as though PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions will prove the best way to play what quickly became the fastest-selling entry in THPS history.
