The 'Echo Ridge' followed Colter Shaw (Justin Hartley) as a missing person's case in his hometown led him to uncover a child trafficking ring - and a surprise connection to his own father. One of his father's carvings, in the trailer of a trafficker, took him to a man who knew Ashton (Lee Tergesen), and Colter finally learned who was responsible for his death.

This would seem like a resolution to Colter's long-standing questions about how his father died, but in the end, Otto's (Alex Fernandez) last words in the episode just open an entirely new can of worms. The first two seasons of the show seem to be pointing to a death at the hands of the Feds, but the revelation that it was (allegedly) Colter's mother behind it all throws everything off, and leaves us with even more questions that desperately need answers.

7 Does Colter Kill Otto After His Confession?

'Echo Ridge' Cuts Off Before The End Of Their Confrontation

Justin Hartley as Colter Shaw in Tracker season 2, episode 20 (7)

The final scene of the season 2 finale sees Colter shed a single tear from behind his gun, as Otto tells him that not only did he kill his father - but that his mother was the one behind it. At that moment, the scene cuts to black, which means that the first question for season 3 to answer will be if Colter pulls the trigger!

Colter is not a man who is afraid to shoot, or kill, people who he sees as villains, and this episode showed him getting even darker than before, as he threatens to torture a man for information. There's little doubt that Colter is a killer, but he's also carefully painted as a hero, who only shoots to kill when it is truly justified. So, will he consider this a justified death? It's significantly more likely that Colter will be unable to kill him, and that he will have many, many more pressing questions to ask.

However, it's unlikely that the show would set up a situation where Colter can simply ask all the questions that he needs to, get the answers, and be done with it. What's more likely is that there is some kind of twist that will see Otto dead, questions unanswered, and yet Colter not at the other end of the smoking gun. Thankfully, because this was such a huge cliffhanger, whatever happens, it is likely to be resolved as soon as Tracker returns.

6 Did Otto Actually Kill Ashton, Or Is He Lying?

Otto's Confession May Not Be The Full Truth

Obviously, the big reveal is that Mary Dove Shaw (Wendy Crewson) was the one behind Ashton's death, asking Otto to kill him. However, there's absolutely no guarantee that this is the truth. Tracker is all about plot twists, so any number of things are possible. Otto could be working for the Feds himself, who killed Asher and are using Otto to pin it on someone else, for example. However, this seems unlikely, given that Otto had no way of knowing that Colter would find him - although he did seem resigned to the conversation, rather than shocked by it, which is enough to lend a little credibility to that theory.

It's also possible that Otto was the one to push Ashton off a cliff, but that he was doing it of his own accord, under the impression that it was helping Mary in some way. His confession is that he did it "for her" not "because she told me to", which leaves room for interpretation. Otto could have killed Asher for any number of reasons that he justifies as 'for' Mary's sake, or could even be lying - not the one to kill him, but willing to take the fall for whoever actually did.

Of course, with this being such a huge bombshell, and given that it sets up plenty of new questions, it's highly likely that Otto is telling at least enough of the truth to believe that he was the hand that pushed Ashton, and what we need to find out is the depths of the why.

5 What Was Ashton Involved In Before He Died?

The Biggest Question About Ashton Remains Unanswered

Ashton Shaw from Tracker looks upward and smiles

This is not a new question, of course - the mystery of what, exactly Ashton Shaw was involved in has been looming large since season 1. So far, everything still points to some kind of involvement with the government - but it's still unclear what, exactly, that is. One of the biggest clues of this season was in the box of Ashton's things that Colter picked up, and found a phone number in. The number leads to a scientist who was killed the same year as Ashton, and who appears to have been involved in government work.

Tracker Season 2 Ending Explained

The Tracker season 2 finale leaves the audience with a shocking cliffhanger that will forever change the course of the CBS television show.

We already know that Ashton believed that someone (presumably the government) was after him, and that he was involved in some kind of research. But beyond that, not much is known - he could have been working for the government, and then targeted by them for something involving his research, or for finding something out that wasn't connected to his research. With Tracker, there's no way of knowing which direction this will go, given that they've even wandered into government cover ups of aliens in one episode!

4 What Does Russell Know That He Isn't Saying?

Colter's Brother Remains The Family's Wild Card

Jensen Ackles as Russell Shaw looking angry in Tracker

Russell Shaw (Jensen Ackles) has been a fan-favorite since he first appeared, and it was quickly established that although Colter had suspected him of being the killer for a long time, this just wasn't the case. Since then, the two have worked together more than once, and it was something of a surprise that he didn't show up in the finale (although he got plenty of mentions!). Now that Colter knows who did push Ashton, there are some new questions around Russell - primarily, why Mary Dove has seemingly tried to pin her husband's murder on her oldest son for this long!

Since season 1, Mary has been adamant that Colter shouldn't be following up on the case, and that Russell is bad news and can't be trusted. If Otto is telling the truth, that means Mary knows that Russell is innocent, so why has she been trying to drive Colter away from his brother? This, combined with some recent comments about Russell knowing more than "anyone else in the family", suggests that Russell is still hiding something - and Colter is going to have to go to him to really piece this all together.

3 What Else Is Mary Hiding?

The Matriarch's Secrets May Go Deeper Than Anyone ImaginedWendy Crewson as Mary Dove Shaw in Tracker season 2, episode 20

It's increasingly clear that Mary knows a whole lot more than she is letting on, and her persistence in trying to make Colter drop it is more to do with protecting herself than protecting him - but exactly what she knows is going to be a slow mystery to unravel. Of course, there are already plenty of theories, with everything from her having an affair with Otto to her being a government agent being floated.

Tracker Cast & Character Guide: Who Else Stars In Justin Hartley's CBS Show

Justin Hartley plays the main character in Tracker, which revolves around a survivalist with impressive tracking skills – who else is in the cast?

Tracker being Tracker, it's impossible to rule any of these out, but it's clear that Mary has some kind of involvement, and that her long-standing line that Ashton simply lost his mind is not the truth. It's going to be a highlight of the season to see how Colter's relationship with her changes, as he starts to investigate her - and seeing if he challenges her outright about Otto's confession, or if he tries to investigate her in secret.

2 Does Reenie Continue Working With Leo (And Does Velma Stay On The Team)?

The Fates Of The Rest of Team Tracker Are Also In Question

While the finale focuses primarily on Colter (as do most episodes!), there are still some season 3 questions around the rest of Team Tracker. The tech team seem settled, but Reenie (Fiona Rene) is still recovering from being kidnapped and nearly killed, thanks to her involvement with Leo (Pej Vahdat). Her biggest question, of course, is if she will continue to work with him - and that's one that is directly asked in the finale. It's likely that this means the series isn't done with Leo yet, but given that his major launch and his own personal mystery appear resolved, it's not clear how that would work.

Velma is an even bigger question mark. Although she has been technically present throughout the season, in many episodes she appears only in ing, as someone references her or mentions her, or is seen answering a call from her. When she does appear, Velma is only in incredibly brief scenes as she es Colter a case, and she is the only member of Team Tracker who has had nothing even approaching a personal storyline or character development this season. Season 3 has to see her develop, or it's very likely that she will be phased out.

1 Will Season 3 Finally Solve The Mystery?

Now That Colter Has More Information, This Case Could Become His Focus

Justin Hartley as Colter Shaw in Tracker season 2, episode 20 (6)

Throughout seasons 1 and 2, Tracker has laid out clues to this big mystery in amongst the simpler cases that Colter tackles. Even in the finale, Ashton's murder is not the sole focus, but is a side quest for Colter as he hunts down the traffickers. However, now that Colter has this huge leap in information, it would seem odd for him to put it to the side in order to focus on smaller cases... and this creates a potential problem for the third season of the show.

Tracker is, by nature, an episodic show, but it's difficult to imagine that Colter would just drop his father's case to tackle a random missing person, now that he knows so much more. The most logical move for the character would be to have him pursue this personal case to the exclusion of all else, but making every episode about this case would completely change the series. Instead, it's likely that he'll start following it, but quickly hit a brick wall, forcing him to take breaks to pursue other cases. However, this feels like a big enough break that it could mean the whole mystery is resolved over the course of the season.
