Summary

  • Tracy Spiridakos could continue as Detective Hailey Upton on FBI after leaving Chicago PD.
  • Spiridakos already appeared in FBI season 2, establishing a potential crossover.
  • Other One Chicago alums could work with the FBI franchise on future crossovers.

Tracy Spiridakos is set to exit Sophia Bush left the show following season 4. Upton has had many ups and downs throughout her time working in the Intelligence Unit, but she will have to say goodbye during the Chicago PD season 11 finale.

The Chicago PD season 11 finale, "More," premieres on Wednesday, May 22, at 10 pm ET on NBC.

Months before the season 11 premiere, NBC announced that Jesse Lee Soffer's exit the previous season. Soffer played Detective Jay Halstead, Upton's husband, and the show tried continuing the characters' relationship despite Soffer's absence, but they eventually divorced. Now that Spiridakos is leaving Chicago PD, though, there is hope that Halstead and Upton could reunite (possibly in New York).

Tracy Spiridakos Already Has Already Appeared In FBI

The Actress Guest Starred As Upton In FBI Season 2

Even though Tracy Spiridakos is exiting Chicago PD after the season 11 finale, that doesn't mean that fans have seen the last of Hailey Upton (unless she dies, of course, but that seems like a small possibility). Upton could always return to the NBC police procedural series, or she could find a permanent home on the CBS crime drama show FBI, where she has already appeared. Spiridakos guest starred as Upton in FBI season 2, episode 19, "Emotional Rescue," when she partners up with Special Agent Omar Adom "OA" Zidan to investigate a murder.

The producers of Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, and Chicago Med have the opportunity to work with FBI following Upton's appearance, and they should take it during the next television season (and take advantage of the popularity of the two franchises).

After Upton planted drugs on a suspect in Chicago PD season 7, Sergeant Hank Voight disciplined her by g her up to be a loan-out officer at the FBI field office in New York. Special Agent Maggie Bell was away on an undercover mission, so, OA needed a temporary partner — enter Upton. In just one episode, FBI laid the groundwork for Upton's dynamics with its characters and her overall place in this universe. So, perhaps Spiridakos' best future is having a permanent place in the CBS series (or one of its spinoffs) after leaving her role as Upton in Chicago PD.

More One Chicago Characters Could Cross Over To The FBI Shows

the cast of One Chicago assembled inside a multi-colored C

Tracy Spiridakos' guest appearance as Hailey Upton in the FBI season 2 finale was the only time a One Chicago character crossed over to an FBI show. However, it established a connection between the two franchises, meaning they could always intersect in the future. Unfortunately, they exist on different networks, so, crossovers can be tricky. But the producers of Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, and Chicago Med have the opportunity to work with FBI following Upton's appearance, and they should take it during the next television season (and take advantage of the popularity of the two franchises).
