Unicron would be a way for the Transformers franchise to chart a new future and keep the story fresh for general audiences. Meanwhile, longtime fans of the property will finally be able to see the planet-sized glory in live-action and the massive destruction that comes with Transformers villain Unicron. Paramount selecting him as the new trilogy's villain would also inherently increase the scale.

The plans for Unicron to be the villain of a new movie trilogy could begin with an appearance as one of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts' characters. It is currently not confirmed that the planet-consuming villain is in the film, but Transformers 7 set photos teased his potential presence. Photos of Scourge included the Terrorcon having Unicron's symbol. This means that Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will at the very least tease Unicron's existence and connection to the main plot even if the villain is not firmly present. The most likely outcome is that Unicron is saved for a post-credits scene or will make his first appearance in the middle chapter of the Transformers trilogy.
