In Deadpool & Wolverine, Gambit says he doesn’t how he came to the Void, and that he thought he was born there; however, this TVA variant of Gambit gives a tragic backstory befitting of his live-action counterpart. the TVA sends Gambit, Spider-Gwen, and their team to investigate a mysterious incident and Gambit’s worst fear manifests into a zombified Rogue. Giving Gambit a heartbreaking backstory, with ties to the TVA, is perfectly fitting for his character, and suggests Marvel has ongoing plans for him.

The role of Gambit in TVA could be the connective tissue that leads to his return on screen at some point in the future.

The new TVA series bridges the gap between the comics and the MCU, setting up several characters to make their return to, or debuts on, big screen. TVA's Gambit is reminiscent of Wolverine losing his team in Deadpool & Wolverine and the inclusion of this Gambit variant in the MCU would be a great jumping-off point to re-introduce Rogue to live-action. While Tatum’s Gambit was a fun cameo, there is untapped potential for the character to be expanded upon, such as in the MCU Secret Wars event, or the Avengers films. The tragic loss of Rogue being a major motive for this variant of Gambit offers an interesting perspective on the character, showcasing how the TVA can further expand Channing Tatum’s Gambit within the MCU.
