Far Cry franchise. Standing as one of the company's longest-running video game series, the Far Cry games have earned their reputation as explosive open-world games littered with interesting villains and equipment that encourage emergent, open-ended gameplay and storytelling. It seems that fans of the franchise needn't worry about its future because the next game is seemingly in active development.

Over on Ubisoft's official website (via Geekin Out), the company has a couple of job listings for something simply titled "Far Cry Project." The open positions include a Technical Animation Director and an Art Team Lead but actual information on the game isn't specified in either listing, suggesting that it's still in the early stages of production, especially given the high-ranking nature of the open positions. Ubisoft has yet to formally announce a new Far Cry game but it stands to reason that it would be developing the next installment given that the last game, Far Cry 6, launched in 2021.

Assassin's Creed 2 may represent Ubisoft's discovery of its winning open-world formula but Far Cry 3 is arguably where it perfected the format.

The very first Far Cry game was developed by Crytek, a studio that took many of the lessons it learned on that project and went on to create Crysis three years later.

The Far Cry franchise has had its ups and downs over the years with certain entries revered and others being by the community. The aforementioned many critics found it to be lacking in innovation, resulting in a formulaic gameplay loop.
