Within the ever-expanding world of each human character, usually distinguished as the DigiDestined, has a single Digimon partner – often one chosen for them by fate or destiny.
These partners have their own personalities, and usually their own distinct evolution lines, making them an integral part of the anime franchise. Whilst many may be aware of some of the more famous Digimon Partners – such as the frequently reappearing series mascot Agumon – there are plenty of Digital World residents that have the potential to put their stamp on the animated series.

Digimon Cosplay Brings To Life Two of the Series' Most Iconic DigiDestined
The DigiDestined are a select few who fight to protect the digital world, with new cosplay images bringing to life two heroes from the original team!
1 Commandramon
Possible Digivolutions - Hi-Commandramon, Cargodramon & Darkdramon
Kicking things off, we have the diligent Commandramon. First appearing in the short-lived manga Digimon Next (2005-08), this soldier-themed Digimon has only made a few brief appearances across the entire Digimon franchise. Commandramon’s appeal comes from his modern and heavily armed design and concept, and would likely prove to be an interesting addition to a potential DigiDesitined roster.
Although typically this Digimon has appeared as part of a larger group of Commandramon, such as being part of the DigiPolice in the web novel Digimon Seekers, it would be great to see how a single Commandramon would act when forced to be part of a smaller group. Plus, this Digimon has a huge number of potential digivolution routes, meaning there would be plenty to look forward to as we watched Commadramon digivolve over the course of an anime series.
2 Fanbeemon
Possible Digivolutions - ForgeBeemon, Vespamon & QueenBeemon
FanBeemon is a Digimon that has made somewhat frequent appearances since its debut in 2003. Whether it be in the games or the anime, large groups of FanBeemon can be spotted buzzing about in the background from time to time. While it’s nice to see that this little fuzzball hasn’t been forgotten by those in charge of Digimon, it is a shame that it hasn’t been able to step up to its potential.
With such Digivolutions as Waspmon, CannonBeemon & TigerVespamon, it feels the idea of this Digimon not being made a series staple could be a huge waste. Not to mention, in 2024, we were introduced to both ForgeBeemon and QueenBeemon, only adding to the bee and wasp themed Digimon, all of which would make a great addition to any Digimon series.
3 Goblimon
Possible Digivolutions - Ogremon, Rebellimon & Chaosdramon
Goblimon is a potential prior form of the famous anime villain Ogremon, from such series as Digimon Adventure (1999) and Digimon Adventure (2020), and has never quite been able to step out its shadow. This Digimon is usually reserved for cannon fodder, typically in service of the bigger and badder Digimon shown in the series.
So, wouldn’t it be nice to give Goblimon a chance at redemption? This cheeky chap could easily slot into the loud and rascally, yet fiercely loyal character category, and would prove the perfect partner Digimon for a meaner-spirited or brash DigiDestined counterpart. Goblimon could also act as comedy relief in an anime series, due to its previously established thuggish and somewhat dim-witted nature.
4 Hagurumon
Possible Digivolutions - Mekanorimon, Datamon & Machinedramon
Fans of the 2015 game Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth will recognize Hagurumon as one of the three options for your characters first Digimon. This Digimon, while more simple in design, presents a fantastic opportunity for fans of both robot-esque Digimon and steampunk settings/aesthetics.
With such possible Digivolutions as Guardromon and Andromon, this cog-based Digimon will bring a unique mechanical style to a series that other equally deserving Digimon will not be able to. Although some could argue that Hagurumon's design is a little basic, and therefore may not be able to stand out in an anime, this Digimon brings a more modern and certainly more ‘digital’ feel than other Digimon might.
5 Mushroomon
Possible Digivolutions - Woodmon, Cherrymon & Puppetmon
Much like Goblimon, Mushroomon and its potential digivolutions have been seen before in the anime, but as adversaries to the DigiDestined. This Digimon, however, has the potential to add a unique flair as a partner Digimon. Perhaps within its own series, Mushroomon could lean into a devilish and prankster-like personality, acting more as a lovable rogue than a gallant hero.
It would also be interesting to see a digivolution such as Puppetmon on the side of good, considering its past representation as one of the four 'Dark Masters' in the original Digimon Adventure. This goes double when considering that in said series, Puppetmon acted quite child-like and was portrayed as simply wanting a friend. Therefore, maybe by giving his pre-digivolution Mushroomon a chance to be the partner of a Digidestined, this wish could finally be granted.
6 Sangomon
Possible Digivolutions - Octomon, Dragomon & Leviamon
Sangomon is an aquatic-themed rookie Digimon, and is one of the more recent additions to the franchise, having debuted in 2020. Since then, however, its appearances have been significantly minimal, reduced to appearing in the background of the anime or as a partner in the Digimon Card Game partner web comic, Digimon Liberator.
Sangomon's design is also visually appealing; with its distinct pink coral, light blue body and adorable mechanical Clownfish, it would be a delight to see brought to life in a high-quality anime such as the 2020 reboot of Digimon Adventure. Sangomon and its possible digivolutions also appease thematically with its clear link to the ocean.
7 Kunemon
Possible Digivolutions - Snimon, JewelBeemon & BanchoStingmon
Perhaps forgotten due to its weaker and slightly characterless appearance, Kunemon is a Digimon that has seen somewhat of a resurgence due to its appearance as a partner Digimon in 2022’s visual novel RPG Digimon Survive. Even though, unlike the other partners in the game, Kunemon didn't speak, he made his loyalty and emotions clear - something that would be more than interesting to see in an anime series.
Having been around since its debut in Digimon Adventure 02, back in 1998, Kunemon is another unfortunate case of a Digimon usually used as a foot soldier for other evil Digimon, such as the powerful and menacing Arukenimon. Digimon Survive, however, was able to portray Kunemon in a more comedic style, using its feebleness as a means to further the plot and help create bonds between characters. Something that would suit a main anime series storyline perfectly.
8 Penguinmon
Possible Digivolutions - Dolphmon, Whamon & Daipenmon
While technically there is a Penguinmon partnered up with the character Kenta in the series Digimon Tamers, you never actually see it. Instead, Kenta’s partner is only shown in its fully Digivolved form, MarineAngemon. Therefore, it would be nice to see a proper iteration of this cute Penguin-themed Digimon as part of the regular cast.
In every season, the various main Digimon tend to thematically cover the elements between them, be it fire, electricity, nature etc., and so the likes of Penguinmon could easily cover the likes of Ice or Water, especially when you take into consideration the fact that Daipenmon exists - a mega-level Digimon designed to look like a giant penguin crossed with a shaved ice making machine, and the best thing about it? Daipenmon wields two mighty ice-lollies as its main weapon.
9 Pteromon
Possible Digivolutions - Galemon, GrandGalemon & Zephagamon
Agumon, Veemon, Guilmon, Shoutmon, Gammamon – every season needs its main Digimon. Pteromon is a Digimon with the design potential to sit among this group with relative ease. First debuting in April 2024, Pteromon acts as the protagonist’s partner in the Digimon Card Game's online comic companion, Digimon Liberator.
While the comic is still in its infancy and so has the ability to be adapted and grow in popularity, the likes of Pteromon is too good a design and concept to allow it to remain in a single medium. Take fan favorite Agumon as an example – he has been the main Digimon partner in multiple separate projects over the years. There’s no rule that multiple versions of the same Digimon can’t star in different projects.
10 ToyAgumon
Possible Digivolutions - Omekamon, Monzaemon & ShinMonzaemon
Due to the mass popularity of franchise mascot Agumon, there have been many attempts to recreate his appeal. BlackAgumon, SnowAgumon and BushiAgumon are all clear examples of this. There is another Agumon-like Digimon, however, that easily has the prospect of stepping out of the large shadow Agumon casts - ToyAgumon.
This small yet bizarre bundle of building blocks is a well-known and yet severely underutilized Digimon with bags of potential. A full line of toy-based Digimon would hardly go amiss among the largely varied Digimon designs, with such other Digimon as Monzaemon and Omekamon also fitting into this subcategory. As mentioned, Digimon such as Agumon have popped up repeatedly, and so ToyAgumon would be a safe bet to make if an anime series didn't want to stray too far from the yellow dino Digimon.
