Netflix's fantasy drama best TV shows with an LGBTQ+ main character and appeared to be extremely successful. However, Warrior Nun was canceled after season 2.

According to Rotten Tomatoes metrics, season 2 of Warrior Nun is the best-scored TV show season in history, with a 100% critical rating and a 99% audience rating. Still, even this was not enough to save Warrior Nun, which became one of the many Warrior Nun's season 2 ending left unanswered questions for season 3 to address, but the story may still continue in another form.

Warrior Nun Season 2 Was Setting Up A Much Better Season 3

With Ava And Beatrice Separated, The World Of Warrior Nun Was About To Expand

The ending of Warrior Nun season 2 showed Ava and her fellow nuns saving the world by stopping the demon Adriel. Season 2 showed Ava truly embracing her supernatural powers as the Halo Bearer, while growing closer to Sister Beatrice. However, after the two confessed their love, they were separated, with season 3 looking set to bring them back together, with an epic love story and possible quest. With Ava returning from Adriel's realm, it is almost certain that season 3 would also have explored more of the different realms, expanding the Warrior Nun universe.

Warrior Nun season 3 could have given viewers an epic, multi-realm love story.

With Ava sacrificing her life to save the world before returning to Earth, season 3 was set to throw some dramatic twists into the story. One of the biggest things that would have happened in Warrior Nun season 3 is Ava becoming a villain, with Beatrice being the key to stopping her. It is almost certain that Warrior Nun season 3 would have shown viewers at least one of the other realms, like Adriel's, that Ava had seen. With Beatrice and Ava in love but separated, Warrior Nun season 3 could have given viewers an epic, multi-realm love story.

Warrior Nun's Cancelation Continued A Frustrating Netflix Trend

Warrior Nun's Storyline Is Set To Continue As A Film Trilogy

The '90s and '00s often killed gay characters, like Tara in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Lexa in The 100, in a trope that became known as "Bury Your Gays." While modern TV shows tend to be less likely to kill off their LGBTQ characters, another frustrating trend has developed instead. Many Netflix shows that feature positive LGBTQ representation, like GLOW, are often canceled despite receiving critical acclaim. Warrior Nun is considered one of the victims of this trope, known as "Cancel Your Gays," and Netflix's controversial decision to cancel the show inspired backlash from fans.

Ava & Beatrice's story could have had a fitting end based on Warrior Nun season 3's plans, and that is unlikely to happen in the film trilogy.

After a ionate campaign by fans, it was announced that Warrior Nun's story would be continued as a movie trilogy starring the show's original cast. While very little information is currently known about the Warrior Nun movie trilogy's story, there are many directions in which to take it. Netflix is not involved, but another streaming service like Prime might be interested in screening it. Warrior Nun's executive producer, Dean English, confirmed in a letter to fans via the OCS Newsletter that production has been delayed but that he still has faith that Warrior Nun will return in some form.
