A trailer for The Sherlock Holmes show follows its titular character, John Watson (Morris Chestnut), who opens up a clinic following the death of his former detective boss. He uses his detective skills to solve the difficult medical issues of patients who come in. The show will premiere on Sunday, January 26 after the AFC Championship Game, before moving to its regular time of Sundays at 9 p.m. on February 16.

Now, CBS has released a trailer for Watson, teasing what to expect from the updated Sherlock Holmes story without the usual detective in the lead role. It reveals that, after his boss' death at the hands of Moriarty, Watson decided to open up a clinic, hiring four of the best doctors he could find. The trailer teases a multitude of medical mysteries and emergencies as the team approaches their diagnoses like detectives. This hints at a premise similar to House, but with a twist only this detective franchise could pull off. Check out the new trailer below:

What Watson's Trailer Says About The Medical Drama

Plenty Of Medical Mysteries Will Be Explored

Watson was created by Craig Sweeny, who previously served as a writer and executive producer for Elementary, another Sherlock Holmes adaptation from CBS. Larry Teng is also an executive producer of the show and director of the first two episodes, having directed seven episodes of Elementary as well. While the new series is unconnected to the previous installment the pair worked on, their creative endeavors within the franchise prove them the most capable of handling this latest reimagining.

The trailer also promises a look at Watson's past, emphasizing how his attempt at saving Sherlock's life led him to open up his clinic. The mystery of his murder seems like it will be long-standing trauma in the back of his mind, as he takes a variety of difficult cases to save as many lives as he can. Given Chestnut's impressive acting career, starring in everything from American Horror Story: Murder House to Reasonable Doubt season 2, he'll have plenty to wrestle with portraying this new, dynamic version of the classic detective's assistant.

Our Take On Watson's Latest Trailer

A Uniquely Engaging Sherlock Holmes Story

John Watson smiling in Watson

Watson emphasizes an evolution for the franchise, utilizing elements of the original Sherlock Holmes to turn it into a medical drama. Its setting within the detective universe also means it could explore cases that feel similar to some of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's original work, possibly pulling from them for inspiration. With a strong story already being presented coupled with an intriguing premise, the new CBS series seems like it will have plenty of pull when it premieres next year.

Watson will air Sundays at 9 p.m. in 2025, between Tracker season 2 (8 p.m.) and The Equalizer season 5 (10 p.m.).
