However, after their controversial revelation, the duo seem to have gotten more than they bargained for.

One might have guessed that Barry probably gelled with Veronica due to her religious beliefs. However, it turns out that the duo bonded due to their shared dislike for someone they both regarded as a narcissist: Ethan's ex-wife, Olivia Plath. During Welcome to Plathville season 6, episode 10, Barry noted, "When we first met, we spent a long time discussing a common experience; we both had experience with a narcissist in our lives."

Veronica faced criticism for her comments, with some fans wondering how she could tag Olivia as a narcissist just because she refused to talk to her.

Although Barry refused to name-drop the subject of their discussion, Veronica didn't shy away from revealing it was Olivia. During her confessional, Veronica said, "So, Olivia's definitely the narcissist Barry and I were talking about. Sorry, girl. I call it like I see it." Barry and Veronica's comments about bonding over their shared dislike for Olivia haven't gone down well with me or Welcome to Plathville fans, and the focus is mainly on Barry, who Redditor u/Oopsietaisy described as "being inauthentic and lacking self-awareness and ability." According to the fan, Barry being so toxic at his age, in addition to his arrogance, lack of empathy, and controlling behavior, are signs of the patriarch's narcissistic tendencies. Another fan, u/knaimoli619, reinforced these sentiments, writing, "Barry is the creepiest narcissist, and he will not be outdone."

Meanwhile, Veronica also faced criticism for her comments, with some fans wondering how she could tag Olivia as a narcissist just because she refused to talk to Veronica. u/ElectricalAd2204 wrote, "She doesn't even know Olivia and even itted it. Talk about being judgmental! Not a great look for those who profess to be Christians." Veronica and Barry are the best budding buddies in the current season of Welcome to Plathville, but the toxic foundation of their friendship is quite hard for fans to accept.

I believe Veronica and Barry villainized themselves by dragging Olivia, and I think their reputations are marred now because of it. Given that Olivia is out of their lives currently, I feel there was no need to bring her up. Barry and Veronica were only trying to stir the pot and try to get viewers on their side, but it backfired in my opinion.

Why Did They Slam Olivia Publically?

In a season that has been about family gatherings and new relationship dynamics, I recognized the tone of Welcome to Plathville season 6 changed during episode 6 when Barry and Veronica ventured towards the toxic side with their comments about Olivia. The fact that Veronica and Barry talked so excitedly about this and didn't hesitate to do so on camera is a huge red flag, especially for Veronica, whose relationship with the fans seems to have started on the wrong foot. Still, in a season with minimal controversy so far, I'm certain Veronica and Barry look determined to take the villain titles.
